What's new

Utah Jazz Preseason Game #1 Sydney Kings at Utah Jazz Mon Oct 2, 7:00 pm

I didn't watch too closely, but here's a couple reactions:

*I was surprised by the Gobert-Udoh and Favors-Udoh combos. And surprised that it seemed to work well enough. I mean, sweet lord, if those combos work well enough on offense then our defense will be wall-to-wall torture chamber
*Mitchell was a ****ing steal.
*We are getting something positive out of Exum this year.
*Rubio is going to polarize jazz fans, and the dumbass haters are going to make this place unbearable.
*I'm going to be Sefolosha's biggest JFC fan
*Favors looks good

Agree with most and on Rubio let me start making this place unbearable - if he plays like he did today and if Exum keeps it up, there is a chance Exum takes his spot by the end of the year. His shot looks uglier than Exum's and it doesn't seem to go in either. That's without me even going into his layups. Just passing (which is admittedly world class) won't be enough.

No way. Rubio played better than Exum today for sure.

...says the hater

:P

Exum one of the players were I have no idea if it's just him playing against non-athletes and no size or he actually played well.

Jazz absolutely cannot play at a George Hill pace this year on offense and be effective. When the Jazz slowed the pace, the 0ffense kinda fell apart.

I think they'll gel a little bit more by the second preseason game

Hey I am not going to dislike this post.
But seriously? I thought I was watching real close. Defensively I thought Rubio stuck with his player a little better, but surely X had the edge offensively? It also felt like Rubio had the advantage of playing with Hood, the only guy knocking shots down.

Mind you, I know for sure X will not be replacing Rubio (at least this year).

I dont even know what I can take away. The level of competition just wasnt that good (though they could shoot the ball really well and generally played at a high level, just physically every position was a complete mismatch). Felt like the Jazz were playing at 70%.
Gobert wasn't even trying to block shots on quite a few attempts.

No matter who he is going against, that speed and length is legit and should at a minimum make him serviceable

Watching the Celtics really enjoying watching Hayward watch Kyrie. Offensive super genius brad Stevens is using him in so many ways... most of them involve him watching other players.

I know I know it's preseason but just let me have this.

Love the 'Hayward go stand in the corner offense' also :).

Anyone else think there is a chance Hayward will be the 3rd guy offensively on this team???
Kyrie is taking his 15-20 shots a night and I can see Tatum putting up 12-15 also and is predominantly a scorer..

Very few things would make me happier than watching Hayward become a workhorse haha. Hayward being part of a package for Anthony Davis would top it though (please, please, please).

also hood's three looks better. it is almost like a standing shot. i like it

No injuries is a success in and of itself.

A couple of gobert lobs were insane. The one ingles threw looked impossible to catch live, gobert might be the only dude in the league that could have caught and finished that.
So lucky to have him.

Man I really want the Jazz to run the offense through Exum PnR and Mitchell Iso's in that second unit. both those guys created a ton of open looks when given the chance. I'm not worried about Rubio at all at this point. He just missed some shots, but he ran the team well, and when they were actually trying to defend early on he was ball hawking. I thought Favors looked better in the first stint, but then kind of looked out of it after that. Not sure if he got tired or what, but I had flashbacks to last season again. Ingles was awful tonight haha. That's ok, but there is this small part of me that worries that last year was a contract outlier year. I think he'll be fine.

I actually didn't mind Udoh in there. I think in some lineups he'll be the perfect 5 that can get out and run. Bradley looked slightly less plodding to me tonight as well in his short stint, so looks like I jumped the gun a bit there. I think he just isn't very explosive, but he is a decently smooth athlete for his size.

Yeah, I noticed that too. I didn't rewind it to watch, but I noticed it was more of a set shot because I did a double take cuz I thought it was JJ for a second.
