Las Vegas: Worst Mass Shooting in US History

I think that committing mass murder and suicide qualify you as having a mental illness. The mass murder part makes someone a psychopath to me.

We were talking about how to reduce these things. Knowing he is crazy after he is dead doesn't help prevent the act, does it?

That's why I asked about he shooter having a history of mental illness. I have yet to see anything about that. Seems like he was a normal dude.

We need a time machine. That would help us go back and know who are the psychopaths are before the murders occur.

Also Ron, can you prove that Australia has reduced murder rates directly correlating to gun laws? Now the psychos burn people, and gasoline is readily available. They have a lot of stabbings too.

I feel like I have a better chance against a dude coming at me with a lighter and some gasoline or a knife (or both at the same time) than shooting me from a distance with a gun.

Do you have statistics to show that they have more people being burned or stabbed? What is your basis for that assertion?

Here are their crime statistics. They show that homicide rates continue to decline in Australia since the law change. They have been on a pretty steady decline every year since 1997. They also showed a huge drop in Suicides. Additionally they have had 0 mass shootings since the law change and way less mass killings since then.

Here are a couple charts about Australia and their homicide rates.

Here are some statistics about the problems with guns in the US.

wtf, how are there that many mass shootings? I get that it's broadly defined as any shooting where 4 people were shot, but still... I mean, there are maybe 4 or 5 a year that make a big news story, so what do the other 360 odd look like?

It was something I read on twitter and thought I'd share for the sake of discussion.

Don't shoot the messenger.

You're so edgy, bro. Refusing to read, selectively quoting someone to fit your own narrative - Fake News 101, getting upset about things people read on twitter and facebook and sending mom neg rep insults.
Voice of reason, folks.

Brief, in a hurry, but let me see if I can get more to the point. Can you show me causation and correlation within a cultural context? Crime has been declining generally across the board in the Western world.

I've also agreed with much of what you have said whether you care to recognize that or not.

I want to see causation before calling this over.

Why isn't correlation good enough to move the needle?

I am somebody who grew up with guns and consider myself well informed as to things like this, but I really had no idea that these bump stocks existed and that they essentially turn a semi-auto into a fully automatic weapon. In fact, the design of these things is so simple, that I found a video of a guy who was able to use his hands alone, without any devices, to get the same results with a handgun. It isn't easy, and you have to find a gun that fits your hand perfectly, but it's possible to fire a semi-auto pistol in a fashion that is exactly as if the gun was full auto.

The reason I post this is because now that the information is out there and the concept is simple, anyone who wants to figure out a way to modify a weapon to full auto will be able to do so without much trouble. I've also seen a video of a guy who melts down soda cans and then mills a receiver(main part of gun) and makes an AR-15 out of pop cans. People can also use a 3D printer to make a gun if they are determined enough. I think the internet and all the information available is a major issue for anyone who thinks it would be possible to outlaw guns completely.

FWIW, I am a gun owner who supports stricter gun control and consider the NRA to be a bunch of A-holes who have never and will never seen a single penny from me. Still, I don't see outlawing guns as a realistic solution to the problem we have in America.

FUnny how normallyt the media scours for the motive. but the motive has not been found. while the shooter left a note in the hotel room!

we need the motive instead of a gun debate.

this is not a gun issue!
