What's new

Australia offers to help USA with gun law reform.

Coke and Hookers should not be illegal either and I think you should have a right to do both assuming the latter is consenting.

^This

1. Guns are fun. (Srsly they are really ****ing fun)

2. It's who we are, not just for fun.

3. Again it's who we are. Banning guns in the UK or Australia is not like banning guns in the US. It's more like banning guns in Mexico except everybody has the money to still buy em and everybody is a hair more crazy.(and they really like guns)

4. It's borderline religion. Srsly think banning Islam in Saudi Arabia(well not quite that but still)

5. Something needs to be done but it won't so long as the ban word keeps getting thrown around. Gotta find that synergy.

Example: explosives

We Americans really like to blow **** up. Fireworks yeah! Sure we burn down a significant portion of our country every year but... not a whole ton of bombings. Especially for such a blow **** up happy people.

Admitting that you have a problem is a first step in fixing it.Seriously, you need some professional help ( not only you but most of gun taunting americans)

No sane person would need this at his house for any reasons... not for hunting, not for self defense, not for sport... No modern country would allow to sell it,
yet you like talking about technicalities of the guns more than about how some simple law could save multiple lives.

You don't even know what you're looking at in those pictures, tbpfhwy. Yeah, it looks like Call of Duty Modern Warfare, that's marketing. Those are semi-auto rifles... here's another semi-auto rifle that does everything those do.

My Ruger 10/22 was my first gun. Still love it.

So all these are needed for hunting? Don't think I have ever seen those in Canada's hunting stores...

the 2nd amendment has nothing to do with hunting!

it has to do with deterring tyrant!

unless tyranny from rabbits is coming. then we can hunt tyrannical rabbits!

And? None of that addresses any point Bulletproof made.

Man I enjoy doing fat lines of coke off loose women, (Its always good to have a plan for your evening) but it doesn't mean it should be legal or i should have a right to do it. I think you've got to ask yourselves what is the place for firearms in your society? Its already a society that misuses what are tools of death at an incredible rate.
You are kinda preaching to the choir btw. I'm far more on the gun control/anti gun side of things than the other way around. I was simply pointing out that guns are used for things that have nothing to do with killing people like a poster was insinuating.

I hate fireworks. Expensive, make garbage everywhere, start fires, injure people, pollute the air, the noise prevents sleep, scares the **** out of pets, etc.
All for a very short time of being all like "oooohhhhh look at the bright pretty lights."

Strange tradition.

Are you incapable of likin something simply cause it is cool?

Guns are cool. Sports cars are cool. Fireworks are cool. Domesticated animals are cool even though they are serious threat to society.

Come on man, can't we have cool thinks even tho they present a minute risk? Why not chill out an focus on preventin hazards where we kin? I mean, I am not agreein with setting off a firework show up at the Y on he mountain in Provo er nuthin but why can't we have cool **** an regulate it?

That is what we do with h huntin an fishin. We regulate an control it but Hell, if it were up to PITA we could not hunt nor fish. Why ain't people chillin out an allowing cool **** fer no other reason then that people like it? Can't we take that approach ta guns?

It's not 1776 anymore. Things change when humans progress. You know, women can vote now, slavery is gone, gays are not persecuted for being gays... time will come for 2d amendment to become history as well.

That is a false equivalency.

I didn't say anything about what was needed or not. You posted a picture of "Evil Black Rifles" which is the sarcastic term pro-gun people call what anti-gun people call "assault rifles."

I think it was you who accused someone else of talking about technicalities instead of the point. I personally think the technicalities are of vital importance in this debate. People with little familiarity and understanding of guns are the ones pushing for "reasonable regulations" when they don't really understand what their regulations will even accomplish. Spoiler alert: they won't do anything of significant value.

It has been funny, but there has been no mention in this recent discussion about the U.S.'s Assault Weapon Ban, that if I remember correctly went from 1996-2006. It had a sunset clause of 10 years, after which it would have to be renewed. It wasn't renewed. It wasn't effective.

Some things were learned and the next round of regulations would probably address some of why the AWB was such a joke, but still, people not thinking about technical aspects of guns, gun culture, gun crime, etc. will not pass effective legislation. They'll pass another bill that restricts cosmetic features because the cosmetic features look scary to them.

None of you addressed any points I made either.

Because your points have been uninformed propaganda. Bring a factual argument and it can be discussed. Pictures of guns that look scary is worthless because you have shown no understanding of the weapons and their capabilities.

Your argument is basically that you don't think we should have guns because they're bad. That's it.

This Vegas incident seriously sucks for gun owners. You are never going to convince me that I can't own a handgun for protection reasons or that I should give up my hunting rifles (even England has that exemption IIRC), or even that recreational shooting should be outlawed (not a fan of doing it, but still). WTS, this shooting has a "gun nut" with an "addiction" re-thinking the whole debate and wondering if it is finally time to give them all up. I mean, the 2nd Amendment is partially antiquated for starters. There's no way in hell owning guns is protecting us against a military coup.

But the anti-gun crowd drives me nuts too. Most of them have no clue about what a gun is or does. They are the reason the NRA exists and has so much influence. When will people start to realize that fanaticism doesn't do any good? People like Ron Mexico and Crappy Turd have pretty much dominated this thread with good points. Ron, whose prone to bleeding heart causes, killed it with his "hey, I own guns but come on already" stance. Nailed it. JustTheTip also made some solid points regarding the silencer discussion and was an excellent example of how the "other side" gets triggered and does themselves no favors. Listen to what the guy has to say and discuss it. Don't debate it from a slanted view.

I never said guns are bad, my argument is - Americans have paranoid obsession with guns which results in your country leading world by far in gun related crimes, mass shootings, children deaths and accidents and you guys are doing nothing to admit that you have a problem and to fix it. Australia showed how gun control can be done and how much positive effect it had and is offering you a helping hand, and all I see here is how guns are necessary to protect family ( they are not), how you need them for sports ( you don't need to own it, go to shooting range, pay money and shoot as many clay pigeons as you want) or for hunting ( that's fine as long as it is licensed and controlled and you are not using assault riffles or semi-automatic guns). Not even talking about 1776 argument about tyranny , that is just most pathetic excuse to have millions of guns in the hands of civilians.
I have yet to see somebody here saying that, hey it is out of hand, we do have a problem, we need to fix it.

Worked in Australia. Works in Japan.
