Jazz vs Maccabi tonight at 7 PM MST

'Bout time.

I mostly blame Locke for the whole narrative that Dante was a much worse player than Mack and maybe not an NBA player. He went overboard defending Quin and then it got out of hand the rest of the season. The only time Dante was really that bad was the stretch after he first got DNP'd. It got in his head for a bit then, but after that there was a couple other times when Dante wasn't playing much, and then the Exum homers complained only to be shouted down by people defending Quin. It kinda got swept under the rug by those people that when Dante did get a chance to play, he was playing well, all the way up to and including the playoffs. Neto playing over Dante in the playoffs was over the line.

Not that Mack didn't play well at times, but he was never a no brainer decision over Dante like some people were trying to sell it.

That's a tidy history.... and you know what they say about tidy histories....

For the record, I've predicted that Exum will become a real plus player this year. I stand firmly behind that... and I'm rooting for him not just as an important asset for "my team" but as person with tantalizing skills, etc.

Over the years, I've mostly withheld judgment on Exum (definitely withheld any permanently labeling). And I've also been among several jazz fans that can call it like they see it, and were rightly calling Exum's garbage when they saw it. It wasn't as partisan as Cappy wants to make it sound. If you listen to his take, it sounds like everybody has had blood pressure problems for Exum, one way or another.

Yeah, you do call it like you see it but you didnt account for you seeing it wrong. :D

I think you're just goofing, and that's cool. But I did leave room for that. Have you heard me claim that I had the crystal-clear truth about Exum?

The value of Rubio is that he makes the 4 other players he's with better. He can get anyone the ball under just about any circumstance. Rubio gets to the elbow, and defenders can't drop off any of their covers because Rubio can make them pay for it. It's almost as though Rubio's passing ability makes defenses freeze. That's why his teams' offensive rating is always better when he's on the floor, even if his own personal stats are middling.

Now it's true, if Exum gets a lane to the rim, he's now able to take it and score. And it's true that Exum has good court vision and can deliver the ball to his first or maybe second option. But he's not the maestro and floor leader that Rubio is. Surround Rubio with our best guys -- like Gobert, Joe Johnson, Hood and Ingles, and he'll get the most out of the sets. He just needs a month or two to settle in.

Exum can get 20+ minutes a night at the 1 and the 2. I can see Exum and Mitchell developing as a two-guard front as the season progresses.

Speaking as an Exum fan: I'm far more optimistic about the upcoming season with Rubio on the team than I would be if he wasn't.

Couple things.

Anyone making negative comments on Exum in the past was out of line imo

a) His 1st year was as an 18yr old rookie straight out of high school who should never have been put in that situation to begin with, still he played 82 games, started 40+ and was part of a historic defense.

b) His 2nd year was a write off

C) His 3rd year he was coming back from a SERIOUS injury and idiots on this board grilled him from day 1, no matter how often people explained that he would need time to come back and gain confidence and strength in his body again. No one wanted to acknowledge that.

His first true offseason, lets see what he can do.

Also, its PRESEASON and Ricky is a VET! He doesnt give a **** about these games. He'll dial it up come the regular season and silence the doubters.

Be more specific, please.

The way AB has come back so far is also very encouraging and how do you keep him off the floor if he continues this form into the season? We have 6 guards, Ricky, Donovan, Burks, Dante, Hood, Neto. How do you keep all of them happy, especially if most of them are playing really well? I suppose it's a great problem to have.

I really hope Rubio and Hood are traded. That will mean the young athletic ones are actually going to make it!
You can't win a chip if your best scorer is Hood and your pg is Rubio. I am convinced of this.

I get it. You got the ****s when the homers just defend him when he sucks and praise him when he is good. No balanced evaluation...

The only thing I can say in response to that is I often heard you and others bag him out and seemingly draw the conclusion that he sucked (permanently) and that Quin was justified in locking him in the basement. It felt short sited - just as the homerism I guess seems like rose colored glasses hype.

He said we were out of line to make negative comments on X. That's BS imo.

If a player plays like ****, then it's ok to say that. Even if there is a long list of reasons/excusues. Talking about jazz games and the players in those games is what this forum is for imo.
Out of line lol

Dante was 19 his whole first season with the Jazz. Compared to other NBA players his age, he's played terribly his first couple seasons in the league. How is it out of line to point this out? Is all player evaluation out of line?

Rubio is playing in a new system.
Donovan and Bradley are rookies.
Burks is coming off multiple seasons of injuries.
It's not neto fault he is so short.
JJ is really old.
Hood has never been asked to be the primary scorer before. Even back to his college days.

Out of line to speak negatively about any of them tbh.

I'm going to have a hard time listening to you (or anyone) try to create equivalence between your position and mine.

And, yeah, I do think Exum earned those DNPs. And, no, I don't think Quin is trying to sabotage Exum's career. At any point.

Damn you're sensitive. Out of a 200 word post you pick out 3 words, while disregarding everything else that was mentioned.

Out of line, ignorant, moronic, naive, narrow-minded, petty, uneducated, uninformed, thoughtless, ill-advised. Pick your own adjective but the point stands, all opinions are based on seeing a 1st year 'project' and that same 'project' in a recovery year.

You can evaluate talent however you like but anyone who has called Dante a "bust" on this forum based on the limited information and sample size is a ****ing moron!
