Extend Hood ?

Didn't he fill this role for us though. I think he's up for tough defensive assignments and I think Brown and Smart are better on the perimeter than the guys we had...

Where he may struggle is not having the big safety net behind him.

I understand why he left... more attention likely more AS appearances and more endorsement money... I just think that basketball wise this place was ideal. Water under the bridge though.

Those aren't cons though... more talent producing is a problem that is easily solved... only cons are if he can't stay healthy and if he isn't consistent.

If all those things happened and Hood was healthy and playing well we could flip him for assets... problem solved.

Cons in that it could seriously effect what he can make from the Jazz and possible the open market. My point is it might be better for him to sign a 3 year extension now before the money dries up?

Yeah but Hayward was guarding the top perimeter player it seems. Was responding to him having energy to do both.

Rudy Gobert is my religion... u know this.

Hayward was rotated on defense on the Jazz. He rarely had sole responsibility of the other team's top player, and when he did, he knew he was backed by Gobert. He is actually the best option for guarding anyone 6'5" or taller on the Celtics. That is a harder life than what was expected from him here. The good news for him is that the Eastern conference is filled with vast amounts of suck, so it may not matter.

The last part is unfortunately the part that matter most. East Lebron, Giannis, DeRozan... West KD, Kwahi, PG3, Jimmy Butler, Thompson, Wiggins Ugh...
 
Gary Harris just signed for 4yr/84mil with 74mil guaranteed (team and individual bonus clauses worth the remaining $10 million)

Definitely a comp that Hood's camp will use

The Jazz will do well to get Hood for $70M. I'm looking at other comps in the league...

-- Khris Middleton signed for 5 years and $70M.
-- Evan Fournier is signed for 5 years and $85M.
-- Tim Hardaway Jr. signed for 4 years and $72M.

Hood could get an offer around $80M with a 4th year player option, even if the cap is flat. I was hoping the Jazz could extend him for 4/$65M.

BTW, I think Hood can easily average 18 ppg playing off the Rubio/Gobert pick-and-roll with Ingles and Johnson spacing the floor.

Who do you think offers that though? Not many teams will have that type of cap space. 76ers... maybe? I feel like they have too many big contracts to hand out in the next few years. Bulls will resign Lavine before Hood. Lakers have bigger fish to catch. Mavericks could but that would mean letting go of Seth Curry. Hawks seem like the most possible. Even with that, KCP, Avery Bradley, Will Barton, JJ Redick, Lou Williams, Seth Curry, etc are all UNRESTRICTED free agents.

Problem is those players were trending up at the time, Hood is trending down. That's the main problem I see in DL offering 4/80.

Been saying this for a few years now regarding Hood's PPG. He has the talent, just hasn't had the green light as much as Hayward and also was injured the majority of last season.

The only guy who rivals Hood on your list is Avery Bradley. Any team that wants a shooting/scoring wing who can initiate secondary offense will like Hood. Hood is only 24 right now, and just rounding out his game.

Lets say Evan Fournier and Allen Crabbe's contracts are inflated due to the increase in the cap. Hood is still a $70M player, and all it takes is one team to clear some space and make him an offer at or above that number.
