Dante Exum: shoulder injury

Nerlens Noel turned down $80M this year (or close to it) and has made less money and had serious injuries. These guys have irrational confidence... Noel got the QO.
.

First off, I disagree with your "these guys" comment. These guys are individuals, and capable of learning from each other's mistakes. Just because Noel made a dumb mistake doesn't mean Dante will make the same, and might learn from Noel's example.

Also, it's helpful to put the Noel situation in context. Noel saw all the big contracts handed out the season before, and he and his agent misjudged the situation, much like George Hill. I doubt NBA players are lining up to be the next guy who burns himself by assuming he can make more money. At the very least, you have to believe the agents are all over the situation.

Anyway, you can count on one hand pretty much the number of free agents who have turned down a contract offer to take the QO. Monroe and Noel are the only ones I can think of off hand.

If the Jazz can get Exum to agree to something between 4/30 and 4/40 they should jump on it. There is some small risk, but he was showing that he can at least be a rotation player and this injury was the definition of a freak accident. It wasn't even that he was driving in recklessly. So injuries shouldn't be a real concern more than any other player. There is some risk, though since we haven't seen a large sample of him playing how he was this preseason. I think the big mistake would be signing him to a shorter deal (like 2 years) Either lock him up now in the hopes of keeping him long term, or just let him go. No half measures, please DL.

Someone said season ending. Great.

Professional athletes by nature hav irrational confidence... it isn't logical to believe you can be the best of the best... that's what I meant by these guys. To get to where they are they have to have that.

It may not be the QO but it might be a one year make good contract. Guys misjudge the market all the time. Whether that means taking the QO or a one year deal I don't really see a big difference. I'm not sure the Jazz offer him the 4/40. Even that is a gamble.

My prediction is he gets like what Green in Memphis or Mirotic got. 2 years at a good price... if he gives us a team option price goes up... lower price we give him a player option.

Again, way to much of a generalization IMO. Every personality is different, and Exum doesn't come off as overconfident IMO. Noel is kind of a dumbass all around, and has made many stupid decisions. Not really the typical NBA player at all, really.

Anyway, I think we've hashed this out enough for now. You and Cy and stitches all seem to be seeing things similarly, so I'm going to feel a little bad when I end up being right.

Who cares if you're right or not. All I care about is that Dante recovers and proves my skepticism wrong. This is a message board. Whether you're right or wrong isn't going to change your life or anyone on here. Grow up.

WTF?! I go off the grid and this **** is the first thing I see? Why couldn't it be Dante goes for 25 pts., 10 ast.? We are ****ing cursed.

You're right, this is a message board. It's a message board with a dislike button that people can click when they dislike your post. So next time, don't make such a big deal out of it and send me messages saying I have to debate if I disagree with a post, and only use the dislike button for offensive posts.

I will make up my own mind which posts I want to debate and which ones I dislike. You sir, are not the boss of Jazzfanz. Good day to you.

The thing that irked me was that I basically made the same statement, with a slight variation three times -- you only had to hit the dislike button once not three times. Like I said, I only dislike offensive or unreasonable posts by people who are just trolling and trying to incite people and you know who I mean by that, and his name starts with an F. I don't think I ever disliked any of your posts.

It is the way some role. Bush league move used when some simply disagree even though they are often wrong but just feel a need to be right. It is a maturity thing.

It worked out pretty well for Monroe. Granted teams were throwing around money that year.

Andy Larsen tweeted about this today... Exum and his agent think he is in line for a big deal. We will see if that is smoke or if they have enough faith to gamble on themselves.

you rly think this guy deserves a lot of money? come on guys....you are still clinging onto hope that exum is going to be an all star in this league. I honestly never was high on exum, he was the enigma and he honestly never dazzled me at all. Donovan mitchell has shown me more in 4 games than exum has in his career. We want to think exum is going to become the next all star, but I dont see it. Wish he was, but I'm not sure if hes what we wanted.

Well... Philly just gave Joel Embid $150 million! Remember, Joel Embid has only played 31 games in 3 years! 31 out of a possible 246 games not including playoffs. That's a whopping 12%. As in 12 out of 100 answers correct on your math test. So... perhaps someone will pay him big.

when a guy goes 3-8 in a pre-season game with spin move and a dunk and the fans are jizzing all over themselves because of the "performance", you know you aint missing much if he's not in the lineup for a while.

Yeah, but he looked like a 3 point shooting version of The Dream when he did play.

I want to see the particulars on the deal... word is it has all sorts of injury/performance triggers. Not incentives, but maybe something like they can get out of a portion of the contract if one of his injuries re-occurs.

i just dont get it...lol.

the guy is borderline nba level tbh....lol. I could very well be wrong, but he's far from penny hardaway. He's more like MCW.
