Dante Exum: shoulder injury

Hope they give it a chance to heal and see if he can come back. If it doesn't work get surgery in Feb. Lets hope these new medicos can perform some magic.

This. They need to let him heal and not try to Favors him for a whole season. That would be the worst. If he misses the season, then so be it as long as they actually let the damn thing heal.

According to Tony Jones Dante was at practice today talking to Quin without a sling. He has video evidence on his Twitter I don't know how to post that stuff here.

He should just tighten his shoelaces and get after it, amiright?

Just pop that thing back into place and give him pain meds.
if this were 100 years ago, he'd be back to work tending cattle and working his farm.

And yes, I'm JK. I hope whatever course of action Exum chooses works out. I still believe in him as a rotation player.

What's the rush?

And how do final year contract medical decisions work?

Dante should have the autonomy to make his own decision and not be pressured into a solution that benefits Jazz long term i.e. Exum doesn't get back out on court and inflate his RFA value.

Or he gets back on the court, shows the shoulder isn't fully healed, has to be shut down and destroys his RFA value.

The biggest risk here is for Dante to be thinking about a contract rather than the best interest of his health. He should be thinking about his career, not his next pay check.

The Jazz will be looking at the situation long term and so should Dante. I'm sure the last thing they're worried about right now is Dante coming back and blowing up.

Dude, his next paycheck might be his career.
Dante doesn't need to show much to be considered an attractive option in RFA.
A guy with his length and speed!
If he defends the point, averages say 10ppg, 47 fg% (34% from 3), 5.5 assists in about 20 minutes - he will attract oversized contracts - as he will still only be 23 going into next year.

This idea that the Jazz don't have to worry about big offers is only a good argument if they're prepared to pay. A bunch of teams could make offers.

How is that any worse?
He would still have over 6 months to have surgery and rehab..

You guys already think he has no value in RFA..
Seems like a no brainer to avoid surgery as much as is possible.

It's his friggin left shoulder too!

Sounds like you don't really believe in him if you think his next paycheck might be his career. Then you say you think he could get big offers. Maybe you're just having a hard time making up your mind.

This idea that Utah could force him to have surgery isn't really even worth addressing, so I won't. As for your idea of Dante putting up numbers to get a big contract, it just isn't very likely. If he does decide to forgo surgery and try a comeback, he's still going to be out for a while, and other players will have a chance to mesh and build chemistry. It's not going to be a situation where he comes back and suddenly he's getting significant minutes to prove his worth. He's going to have to fight his way back into the rotation. Utah has other good players that deserve minutes, so they aren't going to go out of their way to shoot themselves in the foot with Dante.

Sorry, I have no doubt Dante could get offers in FA, but he isn't getting an all-star payday IMO.

^This.
Even if Dante returns after the all-star break, he won't be in great shape. And that actually only gives him ~4 months until free agency begins. The league has a glut of PG's right now. There are only a handful of teams who don't have their prospective PG's of the future in place. Teams have to know the Jazz would match any reeasonable offer. I just don't see many teams willing to reserve cap space until at least July 4th (when Jazz would have to match/decline). And that's assuming Dante would agree to an offer sheet on Day 1. Of course, it's been reported his agent believes Dante can get a huge deal. I'd say tops is 4/$60M if a team truly believes in him.
