Trade Favors Before Long

Our recent bad luck with injuries and his current contract situation lead me to believe that we should trade Favors for either a pick or a young wing while he still has some value. The Celtics might want/need some depth...

Hopefully he can start this season on a tear and I don't mean muscle...

I really wish a poster wasn't allowed to start a thread until they had something like 15 rep power.

Yeah he plays well with Rudy, can score the ball, plays both ways and its not like the team isn't loaded on wings. Sure why not trade him? While you're at it will Golden State give us some magic beans for Rudy?

Favors is likely gone after this year. We now have depth issues at the wing. This isn't rocket science.

I'm not saying this is to be considered right away, but its something we should consider as we get into December should we struggle.

Why is he gone? He might leave but there has been no indication of that. If we trade him we have no depth at PF. Who is our PF after the trade and the backup?

Right now even with Hood down we have 2 SGs Burks and Mitchell. We have 2 SFs Ingles and Sefolosha. We also have some depth behind them. That is pretty solid.

I'm enjoying the favors renaissance. Why would we trade him. He looks like his old self. He was guarding Wiggins on the perimeter last night and the wolves didnt take advantage. He went down and got some buckets for us in the post like he used to and he's knocking down the long two. Our offense isn't great so if he shoots 45% or so from there this year that's okay.

I would trade him for something of real value but trading him just to trade him is pretty stupid. Who is giving up a wing scorers better than the wings we have for him... who's giving up a first round pick? I ain't moving the guy for a second rounder... maybe just enjoy the success he's having and root for the guy... he's a great dude and worked his tail off.

Lopo we get it. You want to trade Favors. 90% of your posts are about trading Favors.
Nah. I'm all for trading guys who seem to be leaving for nothing. Especially guys I feel don't fit next to our more important players.

This whole thread is about the long haul not right now. I'm interested to see how the next 6 weeks go. I did jump the gun a little on the timing. Mainly joking on injury prone players...

But they are playing together well... getting a second for him is less valuable than re-signing him. The market for centers is not robust...dude might come cheap.

Unless he's indicated a willingness/desire to re-sign at a reasonable price, I think you trade him if someone offers a long-term asset. Otherwise, hope he stays healthy & let the season play out.

I actually agree with LoPo. Favors doesn't fit.
The Jazz have struggled in the 1st quarters of each game to score. At least part of that is they simply need at least one more shooter. Favs has played well in the 2nd unit paired up with Udoh. But Jazz can't afford to pay him $20m to be a 2nd unit big. I'm not saying trade Favs for beans. But this is kind of like Millsap/Jefferson. The Jazz should at least get SOMETHING for him rather than have him walk for nothing.

As an aside, if the Jazz DO keep Favs' cap hold on the books along with Exum and Hood, they have zero dollars for free agents. Do we really think this team, minus Joe Johnson (because Utah would be well into the luxury tax by just keeping Exum, Hood and Favs) would ever contend? No, they won't.
