Both Denver and Minny are most likely playoff teams in the west IMO, and we came really close to being 2-0. Are you expecting us to blow out good teams? Considering the change in makeup of the team, I think we're doing just fine so far. On nights we're hitting our 3's, I think we can compete with anyone. On nights we're not hitting them, we'll likely struggle, but I'm not going to worry until we start getting blown out.
I think this Jazz team has great chemistry and potentially elite to legendary defense. I think they'll beat the best some nights. I also think there's a hole that could show itself some nights. I also think the chemistry will be strained if the team goes on a losing streak. The Rubio adjustment is going to take time. I hope things stay positive until that happens.
It's two games. I know we played good teams. I'm not going off scoring differential or record after two games. That was my long term take after seeing the team in action in regular season games. I'm not really all that insightful or knowledgeable, just figured I'd share my take.
If you don't think there are going to be some really ugly scoring droughts for this team, good on you. There will be times when no amount of D is going to make up for not being able to score. And I've been one who has been very much in the camp of "it's better to be one of the best in the NBA on one side of the floor than to be pretty good on one side and okay on the other." Meaning, I believe that the Jazz absolutely SHOULD go all-in with the defensive identity. I also fear players might lose faith in that if lack of scoring loses them emotional games, especially if the losses come in bunches. Defense is hard. Defense requires more than offense, imho. To keep the motivation level high on the defensive end could become a challenge if the players don't think it's working. I'm very afraid of that happening.
