Jazz 2017/18 Playoff Bus! All Aboard!

Here's a wild hypothetical. Lets say we survive December and we get to all-star week as a surefire playoff team. Usually coaches try to reward winning franchises with an all-star recognition. Gobert missed 3 weeks... Mitchell is leading us in scoring and has been fabulous lately... Who gets it for the Jazz? Is it possible we get a rookie all-star?

Not in the western conference.

This. West is crammed full of talent.

Butler, Wiggins, KAT, George, Westbrook, Cousins, AD, Durant, Green, Curry, CP3, Harden, DJ, Millsap, Lilliard, Leonard, Thompson, Gasol, Conley, Millsap, Griffin... a rookie won't get it IMO.

Kawhi isnt going to get in. He is going to miss more than half the games before the All-Star game.

None of the Clippers or Grizzlies getting in either.

I do think there is a scenario where Donovan gets in, but Utah has to be a top 5 seed. It will be hard to keep a Utah player off the team if they are securely in the playoffs. They might pick Gobert, especially if he starts putting up his usual numbers, but it could be Mitchell.

Yep, my thought is... imagine we are at seed no. 4-5-6 in the West. How are you going to leave that team without an All-star? Has this happened anytime recently?

Hard to check midseason records, but I know the Blazers wound up with the 5th seed and no allstars a couple of seasons back.

Are there any rules now for how many guards and forwards/centers get voted in?

They were going on late season hot streaks, they were never in playoff position at the time of the all-star game.

george won't make it. only one of KAT, wiggins or butler will make it i bet. so maybe there is a chance?

Yeah they were lol. When they had LMA they were firmly in the playoffs for years.
I meant the last two years when Lillard missed the all-star games. He made 2 all-star games with LMA on the team when they actually were in the playoff picture at the time of the ASG selection process.

I haven't seen much of the Kings, but hasn't Butler had a very underwhelming season? My brother has him on his fantasy team, and he's not amused.

The Blazers never got the 5th seed the last two years iirc so I assumed he was referencing the LMA years.

Butler has been their best player by far. And it's the Wolves.

Mitchell would be much more fun than Rudy in the all star game though. Rudy would only last a couple plays then they'd take him out for playing too much defense.

The schedule is so rough that I'm not sure we can realistically make that happen... if it does it will be apparent that either DM or Rudy deserve an AS game nod.

Last night was huge for the Playoff Bus.

Jazz won while the Wolves and Nuggets lost. Jazz are currently the 7th seed but they are only a 1/2 game behind the Blazers, Nuggets and Thunder. A win tonight along with a Blazers loss will move the Jazz into 6th but tied with the Nuggets and Wolves.

Where to start with this team...

So far the return of Gobert has come mostly at the expense of Udoh. He got only 8 minutes last night in a blow out win. Favors and Gobert are taking up all of the time at the 5. They only played 6 minutes together. During that time the game was 7-7. They have to be staggered. Something to keep an eye on.

Jazz are the 3rd best 3 point shooting team in the league

No one played more than 30 minutes last night (Jerebko). Players should be somewhat fresh for tonight's game against the Thunder.

This Jazz offense and defense is killer and if this is who the Jazz are they are one of the best teams in the NBA. Of course not long ago at all they were one of the worst in the league. December is a brutal month. Thunder 3 times, Rockets and Cavs twice, Celtics, Spurs, Nuggets, Warriors and Bucks. December will truly tell us who this team is.

Jazz currently have 8 players shooting 37% or better from 3.

Another game and another opposing player/coach is on the Mitchell bandwagon. Brooks called him one of the best players in the league, not just among rookies. Kid is a star and 1 of 2 cornerstones for the Jazz. Gobert the obvious other.

Jazz are 6-6 against current playoff teams.

Snyder should be generating some COY buzz. His development of players has been outstanding.

Burks, man oh man. If this version is who he is as a player now than he is 6th man of the year. 27 pts, 5 rebs, 3 ast and a steal in 28 minutes on 13 FGs. He is crushing it.

Keep in mind the Jazz have been injured. Gobert and Hood have both missed several games and not to mention Exum...

Over the last 8 games the Jazz are 7-1. With wins of 47, 40, 30, 29, 19 and 13.

I fully expect another win tonight and to go 3-0 in dreaded December.

So many thoughts...

So many thoughts is right. How the hell did Burks pull such a Houdini? Great info. Those win margins are insane.

Never in doubt. Called it growing pains and said they need more time to figure things out. But man, nobody would have predicted Mitchell turning the corner so fast... Too bad we can't extend his contract for 10 years now.

I think a lot of people were confident of Donovan's greatness a while ago. But who besides you was never in doubt about the Jazz? After those terrible games I thought we had almost no chance of having a good season. But with Rudy and Donovan it didn't matter because we had our two stars. Tank away! And yet early season after those good games I was high on us. Damn, it's been weird.

Mitchell has averaged 25 pts over his last several games. He'd pretty much need to keep that up and maintain some semblance of efficiency.
