Chicago Draft Combine 2011

I can understand how the whole procedure is unfair to the players. You have a college/ HS career that teams can study as much as they like, but a good player who performs badly at the combine can hurt his position (thus lose a bunch of money).

Chad Ford:

Kyrie Irving is skipping both drills and athletic testing. Griffin, Wall even LeBron did testing.

I think it is funny how these analysts compare players to Wes Matthews alll the time. Any wing player that is solid at everything but not really elite at one thing is compared to him.

Anyways, I think Kanter has a lot to gain from these workouts considering he didn't play this year. I get the other prospects not participating though. Although, I don't think Leonard belongs in that group, he should have done the workouts.

For those of you who don't get it Irving and Kanter don't have anything to gain and millions to lose it they participate and have a bad showing.

They should make it mandatory unless you are obviously injured. Teams deserve to get as much info on you as possible before they throw millions at you.

Wrong. If I'm Irving, I'm tripping over my own feet at every turn to avoid being drafted by the Cavs, and falling to the Jazz. LOL

Exactly! For all the what if? scenarios, Irving's the odds on favorite to go #1; and the only live game action most have seen from Kanter is 22 minutes at the Nike Elite Summitt and he's already a consensus top-5 pick.

Kanter has a lot to gain. With a great showing, he could easily be the #1 pick.

This says $900,000 from 3rd to 1st, but if he shows how slow he is and drops to 12 through 20th it's a whole lot more. Also, paying 50% taxes on $4 million for three years leaves you with $6 million. Do the same with a $1 million contract and you don't have a huge golden parachute.

I wouldn't work out if I were Kanter, knowing I'm all bark and no bite.

Well he's about to workout with the centers, so we'll at least get some info on him.

when will they show the big men? i can't watch espn3 :(

he has range and shots lights out. excellent mechanics for a big man :)

Centers are working out right now. It's on ESPNU as well, but I think only for 20 more minutes. They are doing a kind of run the floor, quick post up drill right now.

I'm watching it. He looked good running and dunking. They dont show the players all the time which is stupid (I don't need to have a close up on chad ford's face just because he is talking). They have only shown about 3 or 4 jumpers from Kanter and he clanked all of them.

I know this is free coverage from ESPN U, but come on, can they at least show Kanter shoot a couple jumpshots rather than spend the whole time highlighting some fringe draft nobody.

what would you give for his leaping, quickness and running, between 1 and 10?

Well the coverage is over and they showed basically nothing of Kanter. He looked pretty athletic jumping wise from what they showed, wasn't very fast at getting down the floor though.

Yeah, I wish they would have shown the wind springs for the centers. That gives you a pretty good idea of up the court speed.

the average nba center should have like a 6-6.5, or not? the power forward like an 7.5 to 8. nbadraft has rated his athleticizm as an 8 of 10. athleticizm includes running, quickness, lateral movement, coordination, leaping ability, footwork, agilitiy and so on. i think if we look at the whole package, i would give him betwenn 7.5 to 8. slightly above average, but not a top athlete. but he's no stiff for those who are underrating him. i would say he's on a similar level as boozer, but slightly more agile maybe.

Well I was comparing him to other Centers. If I'm comparing him to PF's it would be more like a 6.
