Jazz any closer to knowing their 2019 roster configuration?

I wouldn't necessarily be disappointed, as long as he doesn't tie us into long-term mediocrity. Keeping the options(free capspace for 2019 FA) open is OK with me. We are not winning it all next year, unless LeBron comes to Utah or something of that sort, so as long as he doesn't lock our capspace in big long-term contracts for meh players I'm OK.

I also expect Exum to take the QO, which BTW will help with clearing about 10M of capspace to try to pry away someone good.

That is my worry too... tie up space with an ill-fitting piece because that was the best thing available or just trying to short cut the re-build process.

The pieces I would not trade right now unless it was such an obvious deal... Rudy, DM, Ingles, Royce (no real trade value), Exum (his value is so low the risk/reward here is too good), our first round pick (not moving it unless it was just too good to pass up).

Everything else is up for grabs in the right deal. This summer we should not be big FA players... not enough out there honestly. Look for bargains in the MLE range at the end of FA. You and I both talked about how we really don't have cap space next summer anyway... that is the myth that won't seem to die.

Really right now I say keep yourself open to Hood trades, move Favors to allow us to go small at the 4 more often, try to acquire a late first round pick with guys like Thabo, Joe J, and other ancillary parts.

We need to find a good third wheel, but the rest is work around the fringes of the roster... will take some time.

I would do Hood for a first round pick in the 10-20 range. I don't think teams in that range would do it though.

Hood to Philly for their pick (not the LA pick) could work. Hood to Indiana for their pick. Hood to NO for their pick, though they may try and drop some salary in that deal because they are going into luxury tax hell.

I am not 100% sure I would do those deals and I'm not sure those teams would either. If Hood played 70-75 games a year I think he's a great fit with DM and Rudy. I wouldn't rush into it and the Jazz know what his contract demands are because they have negotiated already.

(The package of Bulls players is just 3 players who added up to Mirotic since you cant put him in the trade machine).

Bulls take on a ton of salary to get Kelly Oubre.

Wizards give up Oubre, but get off the contracts of Mahini and Gortat (who has been playing poorly). They get Lopez (playing nicely) and veteran role players Thabo (can replace what Oubre does this year) and Joe Johnson.

Jazz get Mirotic.

Alternate trade where instead of Lopez to the Wizards, it's Favors to the Wizards. They don't trade Gortat. This could be preferable to them as they would have Favors bird rights next year to lock him in long-term.

With the realgm trade checker you can trade anyone... just an FYI. They will notify you of the date issue, but you can continue anyway.

I think there is a chance that Washington tries to get out of the tax this year and next and could see them sending Mahimi, Oubre, Frazier and a first (Oubre isn't enough imo to offload that deal).

I also think Milwaukee sending DJ Wilson, Teletovic (or other cumbersome salary) to Chicago for Favs and we get Mirotic.

I think Chicago will still want to move him come January... doesn't have to be to us but we would be on the short list I think. He has a no trade, so he has to like where he is headed to waive it.

Oubre is way more valuable than any first round pick the Wizards have.

I agree... I just think if someone is taking that contract (one of the worst in the league) I would want more than a FRP and more than just Oubre.

Like if the Jazz traded Favs for Mahinmi and Oubre straight up would you be happy... the contract is ugly and Ian has been awful and hurt when he wasn't just being awful. He's also older, so it doesn't look like he will ever turn it around.
 
Mahinmi and Oubre for Favors is very intriguing. Seems like that deal makes some sense if we are moving Hood elsewhere. And Washington is $5.68 above the luxury. I think they have to get below that for any Oubre trade to make sense.

I like Beal and Gortat for Gobert and Rubio better.

And couldn't come to an agreement, which means there was a significant difference in valuation. I like Hood, but he's injured way too much (frail build?) and I think he and his agent are thinking Porter money - or close to it.

I'd trade Rodney and go with Burks as the starting SG. Or Jazz go for a big SF and slide Ingles to SG.

What's apparent to me are:
1. Gobert and Favors should NOT be on the court together. Well, I guess against this year's version of the Pelicans with DMC and Unibrow. But that's about it.
2. Mitchell gives Utah maximum value at PG. Or call him a play-making 2. Whatever the case, he's the penetrator we all hoped Dante would become.

So make decisions around the franchise players.
*Get a PF who can shoot the 3. A rich man's Jerebko or a young man's Joe Johnson.
*Send Rubio to the bench. Start Mitchell and whoever wants to be in Utah at the right price. That could be Hood. It might be Dante. It might be Burks. Could even be Lebron based on his love for the young king, DM (just kidding).
*Consider going after a big SF (and utilizing Ingles as a 6th man).
