Jazz’s Future PG…..

…..wasn’t in Chicago yesterday, but he was in Dallas last night leading the OKC Thunder to a victory.

I know many of you won’t agree. Yes, I understand the 31 million dollar savings. But I said it when the deal went down that Maynor was a player who fit the Jazz style better and would be around longer than Deron. The Cleveland game in particular showed that the Jazz played better team basketball when Deron was out and Maynor was in.

To me it was clear that Deron’s attitude was going to run thin sooner than later, and that Maynor was going to have a 10 year NBA career and probably start for a few of them. Maynor is the type of guy that could’ve been with the Jazz for years.

I don’t blame KOC, he had to do it. I don’t blame Greg Miller; I would’ve done the same. But I hate the stupid CBA which made it so that to save the franchise the Jazz had to give away a player who had a future and that I liked to watch.

Now a year and half later, the Jazz have traded their ‘franchise’ point guard. And are busy in Chicago interviewing undersized Kemba and tunnel vision Knight to see who will be the back-up to Harris for the next two years. Meanwhile Maynor is playing the entire fourth quarter of the Western Conference Finals, going 5-9 with no turnovers in 19 minutes. Sigh.

Whew, I feel better for getting that out. I promise this is my last Eric Maynor rant

Maynor will never be a franchise PG. He will never be a top 15 PG. Something I think Knight can become. That being said, I thought Maynor was a great backup.

His cousin works at the same miltary base I do. I asked him how he felt about Utah.
He told me he liked it. He's happy where he's at now, but had a good short time in Utah. Got playing time, liked his teammates in utah etc.
So that's good news if we ever need him back.

It is certainly great news. But Id much rather see our pg be Harris, Knight, then trade for another pick and take Jimmer

Maynor is a decent player. But so was Jacques Vaughn.
Maybe for San Antonio - but Jacque Vaugh was dreadful for the Jazz. Howard Eisley's first stint in Utah might be a better comparison. One of the top-3 backup PG's in the league and could swing the momentum of a game - but not starter material.
I think Maynor and J.J. Barea are in that same class.

Maybe you're right. Eisley is probably a better call.
