What's new

Pelicans @ Jazz - 7PM MTN

DownUnder: pretty awesome that he can play like crap and still get 24
yamers: mitchel plaeyd well
Zombie: Probably should have had five or six assists too if the rest of the team wasn't also shooting also poorly
yamers: yeh
yamers: had like 8potential assists
yamers: and he got the line
yamers: hood was awful
yamers: ingles isn't going to win u many games as a starter
DownUnder: Ingles is being stretched a bit thin
DownUnder: ideally he's a 25 mpg dude
Zombie: I get the argument that we can't lose assets for nothing , but I don't think I can stomach paying hood 20 million a year
Zombie: If he had shown some signs of growth in his game I'd feel differently
DownUnder: yeah i am very nervous about overpaying Hood
Zombie: But he's a streakier CJ miles at this point. Ugh.
DownUnder: shooting aside Ricky has really disappointed me with his lack of playmaking / creation

Zombie: Yeah, Ricky is playing better lately though. I have more faith that he'll figure that out because he's done it before
yamers: got to upgrade that SF position
yamers: ingles on your team as your best sf is a disaster
yamers: as much as I love joe
yamers: you are delusional if you think he's an answeer

They played DM really tough tonight. He looked sore after 1/2 time, either through the physicality of the game of just exhaustion having to work so hard to create. He'll learn a lot from that game.

I'll be pretty happy when I hear it is not toe related.

DownUnder: i don't think anyone thinks Joe is a starting calibre SF dude
Zombie: Maybe Joe's mom
Zombie: Maybe.
yamers: there are a lot of folk on this board who are quite delisinal when it comes to some of the jazz players
yamers: i called rubio exactly what he was/will be/ and is
DownUnder: I had real hopes for Rubio and he might be good in another system but he just doesn't fit with this group and system.
yamers: truth be told
yamers: i dont think rubio fits in any system as a starting pg
DownUnder: if all other 4 players are really good offensively he'd be pretty ok
DownUnder: he's just keeping the seat warm for Exum anyway You know it's the truth

yamers: need a top 5 pick
yamers: michael porter jr
yamers: ideally
DownUnder: i don't watch much college ball so i don't know these prospects .. but a really good SF would be great

So... take Rudy and Donovan out of the equation and what do the Jazz really have?
Two meh shooters in AB and Hood.
A PG in Rubio that is inconsistent at best and maybe not the best style for this system.
A slow wing that hesitates to take open 3's in Ingles (protecting that %?).
When a 50 year old Joe Johnson is outplaying most of the roster...
Thabo needs to play more IMO.
Exum is injured 24-7...

Man. I really hope Dennis Lindsay is "taking notes". I didn't even bother with Favors because he will probably get traded just to avoid him walking for nothing.

EDIT: Positive? DM found a way to contribute when his shot wasn't falling unlike certain other guys on our team named Hood and Burks.

Uhhh, you could do that on any team man.

Take the two best players off most teams and they are probably ****, save for the Warriors.

yamers: im starting to see why kuzma slipped to 24
yamers: watching him on defense reminds me of a kanter
DownUnder: only seen highlights of him, he looks skilled as offensively
yamers: yea hes a damn good shooter
yamers: hes killoing it rn
DownUnder: tried to watch a Lakers game last week, saw 5 mins of Bogut's corpse shuffling up and down the court and had to turn it off

Mitchell still winded giving an interview in the locker room. That kid leaves everything he has on floor.

Getting to be flu season. Wonder if he's a little under the weather?

Or maybe he sent it big for New Years.

he's a great complimentary player, but he's being asked to do too much at the moment, if they bring in a decent scoring small forward, move Mitchell to the point and have Joe at the 2/3 next year I think it'll work well.

Ricky played decent tonight. Donovan, even though he had a tough shooting night, still had 24 points and should have had about 5 more assists if his teammates could knock down wide open jump shots he created for them.

Donovan was still a bright spot to me tonight, the last two plays where he got that steal and then tried to get another just make you love his competitiveness. He’s going to be amazing, you can see it. In these first 30 something games he’s increased scoring and some of his playmaking has been incredible as well. Problem is Hood, Jerebko, and Rubio can’t hit one open 3 between all of them at times. There were a few times Donovan drove into the lane kicked out an amazing pass for a wide open jump shot just to get burned on what should have been a great assist. It’s hard to expect the kid to take on all the scoring load, some of the play making load, all while the defense can ignore Rubio and even Hood and focus exclusively on him. He is a rookie, and he’s going to have more tough games, especially if his teammates continue to let him down. I love the passes I am seeing from him the last couple games, but for god sakes someone reward him with some assists. Aside from the defense that is absolutely centered on stopping Donovan in his rookie year it has to wear on him when he puts a ton of energy driving into the lane and passing it to guys who come up empty far too often....and tonight it was every time, every great pass by him came up with a wide open miss.

Also is AB that bad? I feel he should be in a bit more.

It was a frustrating loss in a game that I never felt the Jazz were going to win. I think focus needs to be around Rudy and Mitchell going forward. I think Exum is an important peace the Jazz should keep. Everyone else is expendable at this point. I hate to see Favors go because Favors is very skilled and much better offensively than Rudy, but the Jazz can’t afford to pay Rudy and Favors, and as sad as it is Favors is unfortunately the odd man out now, and I think we will miss him when he’s gone.

You wanna talk about Joe Ingles? Let's talk about Joe Ingles.

-He's the only player that hasn't missed a game.
-He leads the team in minutes played.
-He's never played as much as he is right now. He's already played about as many minutes this season as he did two years ago.
-He leads the team in 3-pointers made, 3-point percentage, and is tied for 3-pointers attempted.
-He's second in assists on the team, trailing Rubio in APG by less than 1, while committing about half as many turnovers.
-He's the most versatile (perimeter) defender on the team and is often tasked with taking the hardest assignment (by design or by default).
-He has the best chemistry with Rudy and basically everyone else on the team. He's the coach on the damn floor.
-He is being asked to do way more than he should be, and accomplishing far more than anyone ever thought he could.

Please, please shut the **** up if he of all players is one you're disappointed in.

Agreed, I feel bad for Ingles, he’s being asked to do far too much and some other players need to step up.

I was just pointing out that everyone should be traded and the Jazz should rebuild. That's all.

Rebuild? It's much closer to a retooling. The Jazz have Rudy and Donovan, there isnt much rebuilding they can do (since rebuilds are usually focused around selling off your best players for multiple assets), at least not until the 2019 off-season when Burks and Rubio come off the books. The Jazz don't have enough assets to trade those guys w/o giving up more assets (which the Jazz dont have a surplus of currently in regards to draft picks) so the thought of trading "everyone" is ridiculous. The Jazz are better off letting most of the dudes expire in 2019.

The most important for the Jazz right now is finding the right trade involving Favors and deciding concretely what they want to do with Hood. It'd be nice to trade Favors ASAP to accelerate some sort of tanking mechanism that would take place with Udoh being the full time starter and Bradley getting some backup C minutes while Rudy remains out. But the nature of trades usually results in teams playing the cards close to their chest until the deadline approaches.

By the way, Mitchell getting to the line 10 times is a big ****ing deal. He's been scoring like he has without getting to the line a lot. Let's also remember that in most situations, a rookie season is about development while being good enough to warrant playing time, and Mitchell developing his foul-drawing would be huge.
