Utah Trade Deadline Discussion

I think the inclusion of O'Neale is the reason they are giving up the first.
I find it hard to believe that when teams are balking on giving up a first for Nikola Mirotic. Burks for Gortat is the main part of the trade. Burks could probably look really good in Washington and Gortat has been pretty bad this year. That's what Tjarks said at least. He framed it as Washington could try to ask for O'Neale as a throw in, but it wasnt the main incentive.

I agree with Cy.

O'Neale is more than a filler, but not the reason for the 1st.

Whatever the case may be, we should not trade Royce O'Neale. He's is on an amazing contract and has tons of potential.

I wouldn’t be able to hit the accept button fast enough. It’s a dumb proposed idea. Gortat isn’t great but he’s a good functional player. AB is not that... doesn’t get them any real salary relief and now they start Morris or Mahinmi at center.

If they don’t value Royce and would do AB for Gortat then they dumb. They won’t send a pick unless it brings obvious upgrades or significant salary relief.

So who's the center for Washington if they trade Gortat, Mahinmi? Doesn't he blow?

And even if Gortat kinda sucks this year, I have a tough time seeing Washington sending a precious 1st rounder to swap a superfluous wing for a center they kinda still need as far as I can tell.

I think WITH Royce it's a longshot the Jazz get a 1st.

It's a pretty terrible idea... I like Tjarks but sheesh.

One angle Tjarks is a Jazz friendly dude... always speaks highly of us... maybe he is just helping us out here.

I could see Gortat for Favors with a Washington first coming back. Gives them an upgrade and salary relief. They can re-sign Favs for less than the $13M Gortat has on the books next year.

I imagine that's how you somehow extract a 1st in the deal.

My gut instinct is **** yes, do that. I'm not sure people are discussing how picks are the truest form of liquid capital on the trade market. In other words, you make it easier to grab a player you want on the trade market.
Or you make it easier for everyone to say "OMG that pick could be the next Donovan, don't trade it!" If we parlay that pick into Mirotic then I'm all for it, but there's a reasonable chance that Royce is better than whoever gets drafted.

Interesting idea. Here's my take:

Favors to Washington
Johnson to Chicago

Washington pick to Chicago
Gortat to Utah

Mirotic to Utah

We don't need the cap space this summer. This extends the life of our expiring asset.

They could sign Bogut.

If we didn't have Udoh then I'd like Gortat as a backup. I think he'd be great there if he buys in... I think he might be cooked.

I thought about seeing how much Orlando wants Vucevic... he has said he's a starter before, but he's not in this NBA... at least not for any time that is going to win anything. Would love to have a stretch 5 as the backup. Gortat loves Orlando and wants to retire as a Magic (he has said it) I wonder what we'd have to add to flip Gortat to Orlando for Vucevic. I'd give our second, but I'm not sure that would do it.

I'm not sure if they will trade him in the next few years. I think they have to break up wall and Beal. They don't seem to like each other or play together well.
No the rumor is that wall and Beal don't like Porter. They want him gone. That is what started the porter talk in the first place...

And Wall and Beal don't like each other. I think that's just how the Wizards roll and will continue to.

100% I don’t think he would have that kind of value around the league honestly, but I also want to retain him and think he’s exactly the kind of big wing we need. Just not sure nba GMs would think he would have first round value yet.
I like the guy, but he’s a 24 year old rookie who averages 4 points per game. He’s shown some potential, but you can find his production in the early-to-mid 2nd round if you scout well.

Wall and Beal do not don't like get along all the time either. I think JJ Barea might be right about Wall.

They won't break it up now, but it would make sense for them to move on for OP Jr. in a year. I think Wall might not have a lot of trade value on the Super Duper max contract... Beal is their best player so OP might be the odd man out.

I think a first is a fair value for him... I think he is better than what we'd get in second round pick because he can play and contribute now and is cheap. I don't think the league would value him as worth a first round pick doe.

Picking someone in the second round they may become as good as Royce but it might take a year or two.

Supposedly the Cavs deal for Hill is off for now. I'm guessing Gilbert saw the LT bill for that one and pooped his pants and told people he wanted to sell the team... the last part might not be true.

The report stated the Kings want to move Hill and might buy him out (he'd have to take a huge paycut if they go that route is my guess).

DL lets mend some fences here. Hill was perfect in our system... he would be great with DM and Exum next year. He may not be durable but has been good healthwise so far.

Ricky and Thabo for George Hill and Richardson (or skal... I'd include a second for him). Ricky makes a little less you can cut or decline Thabo. Ricky says he will be very nice and not pout.

Come on peoples lets make this happen.

What's in it for the Kings? The salary savings are minimal.

If they took Shumpert and Frye for Hill, the Kings save $8 million next season and $1 million in 2019-20. And it's possible that Shumpert does not pick up his player option if he knows he'll rot in Sacramento. So if Shumpert were to decline his $11 million option for 2019-20, the Kings just made one of the smartest trades in recent memory. They would have found a way to dump a $19 million Hill who they don't want anymore for nothing. So even if Shumpert exercises his player option, the Kings still save $9 million.
