Utah Trade Deadline Discussion

It sounds like Orlando doesnt really want much for Fournier. They want another wing player back and one report suggested they might have interest in Burks.

Would they do Burks and JJ for Fournier? I would do that deal in a heartbeat if they had interest and even throw in a couple 2nds.

Fournier has the french connection obviously, he also worked with Kokoskov who was a coach in Orlando, and he is a great shooter coming off screens which our team could really use. Also he is a solid spot up shooter.

I would think they would want more... I'd send AB and Hood to get that one.

I think the article referenced has zero merit and AB was a casual mention there. I did see something somewhere (helpful I know) that made it seem like they would just want to get off of his money... seemed silly.

Yeah, I only referenced that article for the stats that I posted.

The rest was based on rumors. I am not sure what they want back based on those though. Some suggest picks to rebuild and some say they want players and some say they just want to move on from him and his contract.

If they took Shumpert and Frye for Hill, the Kings save $8 million next season and $1 million in 2019-20. And it's possible that Shumpert does not pick up his player option if he knows he'll rot in Sacramento. So if Shumpert were to decline his $11 million option for 2019-20, the Kings just made one of the smartest trades in recent memory. They would have found a way to dump a $19 million Hill who they don't want anymore for nothing. So even if Shumpert exercises his player option, the Kings still save $9 million.

Yes I was talking about the proposal I quoted

I figured... just didn't want people to think this was "news".

They save $5M in salary and open up a roster spot next year if they don't pick up Thabo's option. Thabo also gives them a contract they can trade at draft night if they want to match salaries. Can't do that with cap space.

If the Cavs are backing out of the deal, then they likely don't expect a better deal than what they were offered... otherwise they would have done it.

Shump will absolutely pick up his option. If he wants out he will make them buy him out.

Still not sure if that is enough.

That is fair... just thought when I saw the word buyout that they might be willing to take anything... or close to it.

If we could use a combination of Rubio, Hood, Favors, Burks and JoeJ to get Fournier and Parker, I would consider this the best asset acquisition season in the history of Utah Jazz basketball if you consider Mitchell, O'Neale, Bradley, and Thabo too. That would be shocking since it would be simultaneous with the Hayward debacle.

Parker is not only a bit of a gamble, but a huge gamble. I don't think he is in the same category as Hood as somebody who may fly under the radar in RFA and get a team-friendly deal. Somebody could offer Parker a huge deal which could be franchise crippling for the Jazz to match a player with such a risky health situation.

Listened to the Tony Jones podcast... said AB has interest and there is a lot of interest in Neto.

I want to lose Ricky and keep Neto... can we swap contracts with them.

Tony Jones also shot down the Evan Fournier possibility pretty hard.

What a colossal failure it would be to trade a pick for $15M of Rubio and then dump $1.5M of Neto.

You are correct. I see it like this - the risk must be relative to the potential reward. A guy like Hood has been a solid pro and good player. He's never been exceptional but he's always been good. He'll never be a star. He has missed 25% of games during his career which means there is a slight concern from an injury perspective. I consider Hood a Medium Risk Medium Reward.

Parker is High Risk High Reward. At 21, he was scoring 20+ points and getting almost 7 rebounds per game. His injuries are scary, but he's a beast if he can stay healthy.

Exum is another example of a High Risk Medium to High Reward. Two major injuries but the potential to be incredible due to physical abilities.

As a small market franchise, I would rather take a chance on a High Reward player than settle for a Low to Medium Reward player. In a very practical example - we should have matched on Wes Matthews instead of settling on Raja Bell.

I like Neto but he isnt an important factor for our team now or in the future. If he nets you an asset you should take and and not look back.

If Neto gets a bigger trade done or if he gets you a pick, do it.

I think you are stretching things a bit.

I remember the guy that played well for us averaging 17/4/3 while shooting 48% from the field and 40% from 3... played 36 minutes a game in the playoffs until his foot quit on him.

Better defender than Ricky, stretches the floor, and doesn't turn the ball over. I think they disagreed on money and he ended up regretting it. They never got to talk during FA because we had already found our guy.

He literally quit on the team in the playoffs against the Warriors. Quit. When the team needed him the most he didn't even suit up. His injury was a painful one but not debilitating. Ballers suit up in that situation because they want to win. Hill just wanted to ensure his payday. The NBA is a business and I understand that. They gotta get their money when they can. But I still want ballers, competitiors, warriors on this team. Not guys that are just looking for the next paycheck.

Your sanctimony is both humorous and exhausting.
