Utah Trade Deadline Discussion

In this scenario, maybe. I agree completely with not giving up the 1st round pick. I think there were other ways to get Mirotic and get Chicago their first round pick using 3 team trades. But anyhow, it's more just a general comments. Jazz have a track record of this.

This is the type of comments I hate at the trade deadline. Please enlighten us to what was available since you seem to have inside information.

So, if NO is keeping Mirotic, anyone else see this as a potentially great thing for the Jazz?

That trade is for their playoff push this year, I would imagine. I think they will still want to resign Boogie, meaning they probably valued Mirotic largely for the ability to get him off the books next season. Jazz might end up snagging him for free in free agency this summer.

You're right. I'm way off base here. I'll go back to just blindly trusting and praising the man whose Jazz record is 218-241 over the 6 seasons he's been here.

Bad news folks, we're not making the playoffs this year (or have at best a 5% chance). Giving up a pick for a person who will be on our team for one year of competitive play at most is not worth it.

So you are not going to enlighten us?
This isn't a good trade for the Bulls. Asik is not good and he has a horrible contract. I'm confident something could've been drawn up. The Jazz just seem to be very reluctant to actually part ways with Hood or Favors when it comes down to it. This offseason i'm sure they're going to lose at least one for nothing if the Jazz don't trade them. Also, taking a risk and making a big move is pertinent at this point I think, because status quo is not working.

It's a great trade for them. The only way it's a bad trade is if the Bulls actually wanted to go out and try to max someone this year. They should be sitting on their hands and tanking another year, which this trade makes more likely to happen.

No one is arguing to actually give up the draft pick. People are arguing to actually making a trade with Favors and Hood.

I'm all 100% for tanking. But the Jazz won't make a conscious effort to do that either. They're gunning that 8 spot.

I don't think anyone is arguing that - in fact, most people expect they will be traded, as they should. I'm personally 100% that Rodney will be traded, Favors feels like a 55% to me. Too early to judge when we're a week out from the deadline. As of now you're really just complaining that DL wasn't involved in the first two trades of the trading season.

Whats funny is that I bet the Bulls could've gotten JJ and a 1st out of us before we started sucking, and now they're stuck with Asik because they waited too long to trade him.

I just hate "Well we could've done this". How do you know? You don't. Obviously if there's a great trade on the table, the FO is going to take it and if there's not, then don't take it? Maybe trades proposed involving Favors and/or Hood require taking on money for later years? Maybe nobody wanted to give up a 1st for Niko (which seems to be proven by the fact that Asik had to get tagged onto the deal). Saying the Jazz "do nothing" when you're not in there and don't know what deals are available is ridiculous. Criticizing deals that are actually made has relevance. Criticizing rumored or fake deals means nothing.

Brilliant trade for both Chicago and New Orleans. Chicago hasn't even reached the salary floor this year so it's doubtful they would next year either. They didn't want Mirotic and they got their first which will end up being in the late teens. New Orleans gets a player to stretch the floor that they desperately needed even before the Boogie injury. Mirotic is a guy they can keep even if they bring Boogie back. And if they decide to blow it up this summer by trading AD, Mirotic is an attractive expiring they could trade.

I know the Jazz could've done something, which I think they have to do. Either go all in on tanking, or make a move to get better. Standing pat and being idle with the status quo and is how you ensure mediocrity and a 218-241 record as the Jazz GM.

yeah, why didn't DL force another team to give up their 1st rounder while making sure the best player in the trade ended up on his team? All good GMs can do that, right??
