Utah Trade Deadline Discussion

Leverage comes when a contender wants to get better now without sacrificing future flexibility. Hell, even 6 seed NOLA doesn't want to trade for a quality player because he would be owed $12.5 for next year.

MDAV - you said Cleveland is saving their pick to shed salary this summer if LeBron leaves.

I dont know why I stayed around to explain things to you.

Probably a realization by DL that a top-7 pick is unrealistic and there's a very good chance the pick falls in the 15-18 range.

U actually think the jazz aren't trying to get better? That's just dumb and shows your ignorance.

I don't think we're not trying to get better. I think after we start having success we're more reluctant to rock the boat.

No it doesn't. When the Jazz were down around the 10th worst record and looked lifeless after the Atlanta loss, there may have been a feeling that trading away Favs, Hood, JJ and Burks for expirings and picks may have resulted in a top-7 pick in his year's draft. And that may have been the best strategy for acquiring an impact player.

Now, after 3 wins it's more likely Jazz will draft in the 12-14 range or perhaps even make the playoffs. So that may influence DL's trade strategy.

Just some more stats on Mirotic.

He passes the ball 41.3 times a game, which is about the same as Favors per game, although he plays less minutes than Favors. So he is not really a black hole. He receives 28.9 passes a game which is less than Favors, but about the same if you adjust for minutes. He gets more assists and more potential assists per game than Favors even though he plays less minutes. Saric gets a little more assists than Mirotic but their assists percentage is pretty close Saric is 13% to Mirotic 11%. But I would assume that is partially because 76ers have a lot better players to pass the ball to.

But according to stats and watching them both more closely lately Mirotic is a much better offensive player all around than Saric, he is a better rebounder. On defense they are about the same. Both are not capable defenders and I think could be better in our system on defense.

All things equal I would take Mirotic any day over Saric but I would be happy to get either. Saric is also younger. But I doubt 76ers move Saric and if they do they will be asking more for him. Although Saric's contract situation is also much better.

More people need to start drinking the Mirotic Kool Aid. I'll mix some a batch up if anyone needs any.

The Jazz can't stand pat at the deadline. Re-signing Hood and/or Favors would be a mistake. Letting Hood and Favors walk for nothing would be a mistake. Given that, moves must be made. It doesn't really matter if we've had a short stretch of success.

How does that add up? If he takes 12-ish rebounds and shoot 0 shots? Well, except steals I suppose.

I tend to agree with this sentiment.

If Favors were to go to DL and say he wants back with the jazz, would that be better or worse for the jazz. I do like having one of Favors or Gobert in the game at all times.
