What's new

Nikola Mirotic

The Bulls are probably holding out Mirotic out as a ploy to scare him into agreeing to the Pelicans deal. Like, if you dont take that deal and we cant get what we want from Utah, we will just keep you, not play you at all, then cut you in the off-season.

So basically it's a 3-way game of Chicken between Utah/Chicago/Mirotic.

or just get him in FA. If he likes the jazz then there you go.

I don't think hes worth as much as people say nor as much as the bulls want. I always said he's going to cool off big time and he has.

I wouldn’t pay what the Pels apparently were going to. Jazz need to build assets. Trading away three 1st round picks in two years with potentially nothing to show for it after next season is a recipe for disaster IMO. If they can work a trade that doesn’t involve a 1st - great. Have long said that I’m okay with keeping Favors and Hood rather than make a bad deal. Still leaning towards moving JJ and Burks though.

The Pels payment for Mirotic clearly wouldn't work for the Jazz. But it works for them because they're desperate to get out some of their financial issues. And that's why (it seems so far) that the Pels have an advantage in the Mirotic chase: the payment they're willing to make better fits with Chicago's situation than the payment we're willing to make (regardless of which might be "objectively" better).

This. Just get him in FA. There's no way we're giving up a 1st round pick trying to make the playoff (i.e., not even contending).

Would be preferable honestly. FA dollars tight... get him on a four year deal instead of one... then he blows up with Quin and the development group.

DL needs to go Kenny Rogers here... got to know when to hold em... know when to fold em... know when to walk away.

I just want the Mirotic thing to have a resolution soon. I feel like we are holding Hood out blaming a minor injury when really we are doing privately what Memphis and Chicago are doing publicly. As soon as the Mirotic domino falls, we know what to do with Hood.

And to a certain extent, what happens with Tyreke Evans. He is also an expiring wing, but Hood is slightly cheaper, younger and restricted so should have more value.

I'm not worried about DL. I just hope he's not pressured into stupid deals because the fans are calling for it.

I'd love Mirotic on our team, but there's NO WAY I'd part with our 1st rounder for him. NO. WAY.

I've really soured on the Zinger. I'm curious about his mental makeup (opposite Mitchell?) and for a guy his size pulling down as few rebounds as he is is almost a travesty. I like Davis, though.

Mirotic FTW.
He is still elite at catch-and-shoot threes and rim-protection. In other words, he's very literally one-of-a-kind. He's miscast as a primary, off-the-dribble midrange scorer, but the Knicks have few options and he's most of the gameplan for the opposing team.

The offense and defense with Rudy and Porzingis would be insane. Porzingis is also your backup 5.

Why not? Let’s assume you make a solid pick. How long for him to develop and really contribute? I would say 4 years. So that is wasting 3 great years of Rudy and dm. Rudy is in his prime and dm will improve but is already set to lead a team a long way. I am fully behind getting a good vet right now to contribute instantly and Moro looks like a good fit.

And he isn't even 23 yet.

If it is a solid pick they probably will contribute much earlier than 4 years in and also first-round picks offer the best bang for your buck and control with at least 4, and usually 8 years under team control. In the Mirotic situation, you don't need to sacrifice a pick now for him because 1 it certainly won't put you over the top and 2 you can use that pick AND get Mirotic in FA after next season because rookie-scale deals are so relatively cheap.

A first-round pick is a solid no, unless the Jazz were to put some insane protections on it.

Lot of ifs in your equation that may never pan out. Could draft another lyles . How long did it take for Hayward to get there? 6 years? Go for something solid now I say. The future is now. Max out for Rudy and Mitchell.

Even if the pick is a dud it is better asset management because of the reasons I stated. Impatience turns you into the Brooklyn Nets.
