Utah Trade Deadline Discussion

I don't know if anyone listened to David Locke's interview after the GS game but during the interview Hood's name came up and it seemed as though Locke was saying that the Jazz are not holding out Hood. It is Hood who is the one who doesn't want to play until he is 100 percent right. In Locke's voice it seemed he was insinuating this is a problem with Hood that he is kind of soft. I got the feeling this is a major reason why the Jazz are looking to trade him.

I mean, it's smart. We have seen in the past that Hood's injuries compound themselves. I'd rather him take the time to get healthy then rush back.

Moving Favors would be bittersweet, I've always been a big fan of his. Wouldn't be crushed to move on from Rodney, though.

I also can't shake the idea of us trading for Kevin Love.

Utah trades:
Derrick Favors
Rodney Hood
Joe Johnson

Cleveland trades:
Kevin Love

If Cleveland is in win now mode, they get three good pieces for their playoff run, plus their services for the next 2 months while Love is out. Plus, they're all expiring contracts, so depending on what happens with Lebron this offseason it gives them tremendous flexibility. Kevin Love has never 100% fit in there - it wouldn't stun me if they moved him.

It would be a complete tank move for Utah given Love's hand injury, which is weird given that we're only 3.5 games out of the playoffs. And it might ruffle some feathers on the team short-term. But going into the offseason with a core of Rudy, Donovan, and Love - plus cap room and a likely Top 10 pick - would be extremely enticing. Plus, it would be fun to reunite Love and Rubio who both had their best seasons while playing together.

This.

Get Love, get our pick, get ready for next yr

You arent getting Kevin Love for that dude. Jazz would have to give up their first round pick, probably top 3 protected, to even have the framework of this trade be close to appealing for Cleveland.

Probably accurate. But I think that reply is hyperbolic. That package plus a top-3 protected first round pick this year would probably have the Cavs extremely tempted.

IDK what I said that is hyperbolic. They arent trading a perennial All-Star for Hood/Favors/Johnson. Favors is horrendously awful fit with TT. Johnson is over the hill. And Hood is nice, but he is also injury prone and his value largely depends on what he gets paid next year (and you will feel obligated to match on overpays since you traded an All-Star for him).

Love is 29. And he has a quite extensive injury history. I love him as a player but I think he's too old for our core and too old for us to be throwing assets at. By the time Donovan would be entering his prime Love would either be in decline or done altogether.

Are we planning around Rudys prime or DMs??

If its Rudy then Love works.

When one is so soft, are they really compounding? Or is his nervous system not able to handle the rigors of being a professional athlete?

That's ridiculous
So is his "injury" history. The prominent national NBA sportswriter even has a pet name for it.

Either he's one of the softest dudes in the league, he's made of glass, or both. I couldn't tell you why he's missed 1/3 of his games besides a chronic anxiety condition which on its own is wild.

To be sure, I think Hood believes he is injured.

Yeah, he gets injured. It has nothing to do with him getting anxious. Some players just have bodies that get injured more easily, it has nothing to do with being soft.

And yes, when you have a leg injury they can compound. And I think it's a perfectly acceptable response to a team actively trying to trade you to wait til you are 100% to go back out.

I just traded Hood and Burks to the Hornets for Kemba Walker and a 2020 1st round pick on 2k18, at the deadline. If I can get it done on 2k, DL should be able to do it in real life. (sarcasm intended)

I am aware injuries compound. I think he's soft as ****. He acted like he got shot after a common, minor calf strain and had to be life-flighted off the court.

I think he's more injury-prone than the average player, but I also think he's something of a hypochondriac. And also terribly soft.
