Utah Trade Deadline Discussion

If we added Fournier ($17) and Gordon (expecting Gordon to get a max which is $27 million first year WOW)

2018 salaries:
Gobert $23
Ingles $13
Mitchell $3.1
Bradley $1.7
O'Neale $1.4
Exum $10 (let's just say that's what he gets)
TOTAL: $57 million
Four&Gor: $44
New TOTAL (8 players): $101

Rubio ($14.5) - we could try to trade if we value Exum more
Burks ($11.5) - we would pray to trade
We are over the luxury at around $126+
Thabo ($5.3) - probably let go
Udoh ($3.4) - we would keep if we could dump Burks
Jerekbo ($4.2) - probably let go

If we did a trade getting Fournier and signing Gordon to a max deal, wow our finances are tough. Jerekbo and Thabo are casualties for sure. Maybe Udoh too. Burks would have to be dumped to avoid the tax. The most simple thing to do would be to trade Rubio for an expiring. And did you see, Hood isn't even on here.
Yeah, you have to trade stuff to get stuff back. Crazy.

Who are the suitors that would pay Gordon a max deal (besides the Jazz in the event they clear enough space)?

Priority now should be getting a 1st for Hood and getting rid of the extra year for Burks. Would anyone take on Burks for a 2nd round pick?

A hypothetical core of Exum - Mitchell - Fournier - Gordon - Gobert would be entertaining to watch.
I'm not depending on Exum for ****. I forget he even exists most of the time tbh.

Mitchell/whoever
Fournier/whoever
Ingles/whoever
Gordon/whoever
Gobert/whoever

There's nothing hypothetical about how good that team is. It's also bigger, better passing (Ingles is singular in some of the plays he makes there), better at shooting, and has better defense.

Jazz aren't paying the tax, they can trade Exum and/or Hood. They could also simply renounce rights on Exum. The Jazz would also probably tuck Burks or Rubio into the deal considering the finances.

I'm also not convinced Gordon gets a max offer sheet.

There are plenty of moving pieces to have a great team and not be in the LT.

Not with an expiring.

Unless the Jazz know what they're doing with the hypothetical capspace, then there's no urgency to get rid of Burks.

Philadelphia
Phoenix
Atlanta
Dallas
Lakers
Bulls
Kings
You can scratch Philly, Chicago, and LAL off the list as Gordon is really strictly a 4 in the modern NBA and they're set.

I do not see Atlanta throwing money like that at this stage in their rebuild and with their history. Same with Phoenix (they've also sunken a lot of resources into other 4s of the future).

Any of them could, I suppose, but the only that seem to really be in play would be Dallas (who have the corpse of Dirk that I think they're riding into the sunset) or the Kings.

The biggest thing about getting Gordon/Fournier would be that we would have a core locked in long-term. With all the roster turnover since D-Will was traded, I wouldn't mind a few years of that.

Under the condition that the core is legit, SAME.

Yep. I mean if you look at the potential of an Exum-Mitchell-Ingles-Fournier-Gordon-Gobert core, it's pretty high. You've got

- Three guys who have averaged over 18 PPG in a season
- One guy who is one of the best defensive players in the NBA
- One of the best 3 and D players in the NBA
- A top-5 pick that still needs development, but shows a lot of promise

I think you give that core 3-4 years to grow together, and they're contending by the time GSW has blown it up. It would be a young and exciting core to move forward with. It's a core of young, elite defensive players that are also efficient scorers.

I'm not sure on Gordon... I don't think he gets max, but I'd guess he'd get 20M. I don't think he is this Draymond Green defender... he's useful but not amazing. I think he is likely a 30-35% 3 point shooter. But.... if he didn't have these doubts then he'd never be available and they'd match whatever he gets.

I'll bet the pay and keep him.

Exactly. But pairing him with Gobert (in addition to Ingles and Mitchell) is just nasty.
