Hood traded to Cleveland for Crowder; Johnson to Sacramento

I have a hard time not seeing this as trading a 3-8 depending on contract for a solid 6. Just lock yourself into cap flexibility and mitigate downside plus better roster fit. Hard to complain about this unless you think Hood is a lot better than I do.

ok. I have seen many people talk about him as a small ball 4 but whatever.

He's not. Don't know who has said that, but he's not.

From what I can find, he has maybe a 6'10 wingspan. That wingspan, plus he weighs 220 max...he's not a small ball 4. Maybe, maybe, maybe you could play him there for spot minutes, but I highly doubt it.

Just for reference, Burks is 6'6 with a 6'10 wingspan, listed at 214. You gonna play him at the 4?

I like Crowder so I like this trade. Maybe the Jazz could have got more, but who knows. I think he'll thrive here as long as his head is on straight.

Love this deal.

Hood was our worst defender this year by a mile per that chart someone posted a week or two ago. His percentages aren’t anything special on offense either. Maybe slightly above average. And he misses a lot of games each year and will likely get a contract that surpasses Jae’s on an annual basis.

In Crowder, we added what we need and covet. A stretch 4 (though I feel like he struggles some there—can anyone disprove that?) option who plays above average defense and brings some nastiness.

Dump Burks and every guy on our roster can bring the d. If we can land a long stretch 4 who can shoot and play d, and maybe play some 3 too (I guess that’s Jaren Jackson?), or get a long 3 who can do it all, we could be loaded.

+1. Unless you like Hood a lot more than I do we basically turned him into a relatively comparable overall talent player at 3/4 instead of 2/3 and signed him for 7m for the next two years. I don't really get how that's not pretty great.

I kinda get it. We'll renounce Rose, so we got rid of JJ which is nice for both parties.

Hood, in a vacuum, is a better player than Crowder. However, Hood wasn't going to get re-signed, and wasn't going to have a big role here. Hood will probably put up better stats in Cleveland just because of the role he'll have there. He's a good player.

Crowder is no slouch though. Good positional flexibility, good defender, good shooter, jack of all trade kinda guy. Great, great contract. Cleveland just wasn't a good place for him because Cleveland doesn't really run an offense. Boston, obviously did. We, obviously do. Snyder will help Crowder out a lot, imo. Last year Crowder put up 14/6/2 on 46/40/81 shooting splits. That's pretty darn good. I think last year a lot of us would have been willing to do a Crowder-Hood trade, and Hood arguably has less value now because he's a half year rental.

THIS. This is a good trade everyone. I have no doubt that Jae gets back to the success that he had in Boston in the Jazz system. Quin is a great basketball coach. He'll utilize Jae correctly unlike Tyronn Lue. What makes this even better is that Jae has one of the best contracts in the NBA. We have soooo much financial flexibility going forward with a team that is already extremely talented. We could conceivably add a max contract player to this group sometime in the next few years. I know that some people were attached to Rodney but if we kept him and re-signed him this summer then our flexibility was likely going to be gone. And we'd likely have to lose either Rubio or Exum. Because Donovan, Rubio, Exum, Hood doesn't work. It's 4 guards who all need the ball in their hands.

do we get a draft pick?
I have always like crowder so im happy with the trade but think we should get a pick as well for helping them get rid of rose.

Does this free up some minutes for AB?

Rose is on the vet minimum and expiring. He's negligible in this trade. BUT GET THAT DAMN BROOKLYN PICK DAMMIT! Send them Crowder back for it. Redo the damn trade where Utah takes that Shumpart albatross for it. SOMETHING!:mad::mad:
