Utah Trade Deadline Discussion

Okay, I actually had to write down the teams with $88 million or more tied to contracts in summer 2019. According to cap projections, the cap will be around $105 and luxury still around $122. The following teams are the only ones in the NBA with guaranteed contracts that extend past $88 million:

Boston
Cleveland
Detroit
Memphis
Miami
Minnesota
OKC
Portland
Toronto
Washington

There some qualifying offers in there. There are also a couple player options, but almost all of the player options for 2019-20 are for player who are going to decline the option.

So as of today, 2/8/18, exactly 20 teams have space for a major player ($15 million player or more).

Portland has done some smart business the last two years avoiding the luxury. I wonder if Washington is scrambling right now to make something happen. They are only $6 million off.

I think we need a Favs for Faried swap now... get their first in the deal. They still need to get off of money.

Yeah, I think every team in the league knew that and we got less for him than he is worth. Almost like the Kanter situation.
Exactly like the Kanter situation. Oh well. We still have Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert. AND as long as we don’t trade Favors, it shouldn’t impact how this team functions moving forward for this season. Good news is that Royce O’Neale will get more burn moving forward.

IT would pursue a buyout from LA if he comes of the bench. Wow, that guy is full of himself

I see where he's coming from though. Like 6 months ago he thought he'd be getting his first fat contract. Now he might be getting like a 1 year prove it deal.

Yeah, it's rough to see this downfall. I dont know if he could start for anyone right now (unless they are trying to tank). The ironic thing is that one of the only teams I can think of is the Phoenix Suns.

Wtf did $15Mil come from. We are talking MAX!!!! Thats whys Ive been arguing we save every penny, to have a distinct advantage in this situation.

Gtfoh.

Jazz don't need a $15 million player. They need a max player. that's all that matters and as of now, they seem to be the best team with max space in 2019. An argument could be made for Indiana.

The question isn't who is better between Hood and Crowder. The question is what's better between Hood + either Rubio or Exum OR Crowder + Rubio and Exum AND financial flexibility? The latter is the answer.

I never said max. You assumed which is common.

WHAT I SAID

#1 - most of the league has ample 2019 cap space
#2 - are we a major free agent destination? I forget...
#3 - Aaron Gordon or Parker is a bigger acquisition than we ever have had in free agency

So you trade for the right to get the fantastic asset rather than hope really, really hard.

WHAT MDAV SAID

Most of the league certainly does not have 2019 cap space.

Deadline is almost here. Looks like Favors is staying. I wonder if the Jazz will extend an offer in the offseason, or if they'll just let him walk.

I bet he doesn't get any crazy offers. I'd keep him for what he's currently making.

This just sounds dumb to me. Get rid of the better player for a crappy pick? I don’t understand the reasoning.

I think we want to start Crowder and Ingles... I don't see either guy thrilled to go to the bench. Favs is just nice salary dump and the first could be Rudy (it won't be but it would be from Denver).

Favors is likely gone this summer. Before we even get there, we might have to do something with Crowder vs Favors at starting PF. If Favors leaves, we don't replace him.

By doing the deal, we get an adequate PF for the bench for the rest of this year and next. Sure, we might could do better in free agency, but we don't want to sign somebody in the summer that interrupts 2019 space UNLESS we get a major asset (like Gordon, etc.). So Faried plays off the bench and we get a 1st rounder which is very valuable right now.

It's not perfect, but maybe we could package our first and the Denver first to move up to get the exact player we want.

No doubt in my mind that it’s better to keep Favors and start him and Jingles with Crowder coming in off the bench.
