Wendover, the town that stays up past 10pm sometimes?

I'm going to go to Wendover next in the middle of the week and stay the night. I go to Wendover once every 3-4 years.

I'm sure I'll still recognize 90% of the **** hole, but other than Lee's Discount Liquor, any changes worth knowing before I go?

Is there a decent bar "off the strip?" Is Burger King still the best restaurant in town? If you had to stay in one of the casinos which is the least trashy feeling for the best price?

I haven't been there for several years but I doubt anything has changed. The customer profile is still the same and so the service will be as well. Why would a restaurant open up? Even dumber, why would an out of casino bar open? Hell, the strip club has always had a hard time staying solvent and kept changing ownership. If a strip club in a casino town can't make it then what else will?

I always liked staying a the Nugget since they used to have a club card that would send either free or really cheap rooms (something like $19.99 on a weekend night) plus $10 in player cash that you could start out trying to get lucky on nickel slots. Plus I earned points based on playing time that I could redeem at the gift shop. They might still have that program but it's been so long that I don't get the mailers every other month anymore.

Have fun.

I think I've changed my mind...

Wendover has always been such a depressing place. Not sure why I even considered wasting my money there.

I spent a night in Bendover last summer because I'm involved in a business deal with an 80's band that came through there on tour. We went to their concert and had a couple meetings. It was the first time I'd ever been in the Wendover concert hall. Not a bad venue...except that it's located in Wendover.

I knew a kid in high school whose dad owned the State Line and Silversmith. I wonder if his family still owns them.

The only other time I spent a night in Wendover was when I got SCUBA certified at the Blue Hole. Has anyone ever been there? They should just call it "The Hole."

It's actually called blue lake. I have fished there before. Caught some nice talapia and bass. Definitely a **** hole.

I heard that they have a dance club now from a girl that went a few weeks ago. Don't think they had that last time I went. (I do think she said it was in a casino though)

I'm going to wendover to see a concert in a few months. I have heard that the concert hall is a pretty great place to see a music act.

I've always liked Not Utah's western **** hole, but you have to resign yourself to losing at least $300-500 and getting a solid hangover in order to have any fun. I used to do that just fine but now it doesn't sound like much fun. Nowadays I'd rather catch a cheap flight to somewhere like Portland or $90 round trip to Denver for a Rockies game and stay a few nights for the same price, but with better food.

Yeah it is. And it's probably even worse underwater. I remember our instructor going on and on about what a great place it was... and it definitely wasn't. The biggest attraction was going to the bottom and seeing some bubbles coming out of the mud where the hot spring entered. It makes me laugh all these years later to think how excited our instructor got about that. Utah SCUBA instructors are a very odd people, at least the ones I've met. They legit seem to believe there is good diving in Utah.

Who are you going to see? There isn't a bad seat in the house.

I guess I might be in some sense running in the same circles as Joe Bag. The Mo family that owns casinos in Wendover. Well, the Corporate Church has no qualms about stock holdings in casinos either. Good returns.

John Wayne "lived" in Wendover for years, too.

Blue Lake or any water anywhere near Wendover is justly considered one of the 77 wonders of the world. Fish Springs.... about 75 miles southeast has fame, too, as a sort of bottomless waterhole/scuba attraction.

The casinos do brisk business and stay pretty packed well past 10 pm. I drive through at various hours and sometimes use a toilet.

I guess I do treat the place like a ********.

My thread title is a joke based on people sometimes sayin that Las Vegas is the city that never sleeps (But that saying originally belongs to NYC).

Have you considered purchasing a single-wide in bend over? It can't be too much more than a weekend in a hotel.

Nice idea. Then I'll knock up one of the locals and put her to work at the strip club and the whole thing will end up paying for itself.

I've never actually been, but growing up my parents would ditch us all the time to go to Wendover for a night. Got to admit, want to see what all the buzz is about.

Well put

Seeing 311. It’s a surprise for my wife’s birthday. She is a big fan. I like them too but I’m just a casual fan.

If the guy I knew was Mo he sure wasn't very good at it.

That’s hilarious. The only time I’ve stayed in Wendover was in 2002 when I certified at Blue Lake. What a dump. It was funny because they talked about it like it was decent. I did it through SCUBA Utah (at least I think that’s what they are/were called. Up by Brighton.

I certified way back in 1982 through the same company I think (on 7200 S just west of Highland Drive). I had a major ski accident earlier that year and had recent knee surgery, so I had to walk across that cesspool leading up to the lake using my SCUBA tank as a crutch. The instructor was probably 100 lbs overweight land I remember him going on and on about how a whole new world was about to open to us once. He literally used the word "wonders" to describe the features at the bottom of that mud puddle. Good times!
