I'm conflicted.
Yes they are.
I think that they are not as good as they have been playing during the streak but I think they are 5, 6, 7, 8 seed in the west good.
I never got off. I was one of the few who stayed on the playoff bus and resisted the urge to root for the tank.Hop on fish, before the train starts going too fast.
When healthy we have an elite defense. We're easily top-5. I wouldn't be surprised if we end up #1 from the period that Gobert returned from injury until the end of the season.
This team is better than last year's at defending the perimeter (Rubio>Hill + Crowder>Hood + addition of O'Neale). Haywood is a plus defender, but he isn't a killer like Mitchell. When this team is locked in, all of them are pitbulls pacing at the fence. D-fence, holmeses. We still have all of this even though we've lost Sefolosha.
This team is better defending the paint than last year. Favors is miles healthier. Udoh is better than Withey. Gobert is getting back into form and gelling with the new pieces.
Schedule is softening. Jazz are getting healthy. I won't be surprised if we end up competing for the 5th seed again (my pre-season prediction was the 6th seed). Nobody will want to play us in the playoffs if we are clicking on defense.
None of this^ even acknowledges that we might be better on offense this year, too. It just took a little time, a concept that JFC struggles with.
I think it's something like 21 of the last 26 games on the schedule the Jazz are the favorites.
Consistency may be a problem with this team, though. They should be eager to prove to themselves that they can replicate defense-first principles every farking night, regardless of what happens on the other end (because this team will be prone to ugly nights on offense at a rate beyond what's acceptable).
I think we are good though. We won a couple ugly games where we weren't shooting great. We won't always win those, but when we get hot I feel like we will almost always win the hot games.
I was wrong and have offered up my repentance... Ingles has forgiven me and I am now a new man.
The most encouraging aspects of this streak.
These factors make me think that we have a little bit of margin for error if/when the team comes back down to earth. If we were just squeaking by teams or if the teams we beat were pretty sub-par, I'd be very little hesitant to say that we're legit. But what they are doing right now is pretty impressive.
- The streak hasn't occurred against creampuffs at home.
- 7 of the 9 wins in the streak have come on the road
- Beat the Spurs on the road despite not having Mitchell
- Beat the Blazers on the road despite not having Rubio
- Beat the Warriors by 30
- Beat both the Raptors and the Pelicans on the road
- Most of the wins have been pretty convincing. Very few nailbiters.
- We've had adversity. It's not like we've been at full strength the entire time (Rubio and Mitchell have both missed time).
Meant to say that I'd be hesitant if they were just squeeking by. But they're not. So yeah I think they're legit as well. But I can see why it didn't necessarily read that way.You had me until you were hesitant to say we are legit.
We're making the playoffs.
The team is too deep especially on D to not be in games in the 4th quarter. And we have a closer now too.
And if DFavs and Rudy continue to work well together, we are going to steamroll that post all star break schedule.
