Donovan Mitchell All Star Weekend Thread

It's because you bring up pointless bull#%%' why can't you just let people enjoy a moment with out critiquing every little aspect. Donovan looks like he could be a special player. No need to analyze every little thing

How dare I voice my opinion on the dunk contest in an NBA forum about the dunk contest. Lol

Yes, Donovan looks like a special player. Saying the dunk contest was weak does not take anything away from him. From my first post I made in the thread, I said I'm glad he won and like his dunks. If this triggers you then cry harder.

As an expert in being a joyless ****ing hater, let me just say turds like Archie and Cy need to take a lesson on chilling the **** out and enjoying something. Good ****ing lord.

Yeah, it's me that needs to chill out.

Says the guy that types nothing but insults and name calls if someone has a different take.

Anyone who even begins to try and take away anything from Donovan on social media, here, or elsewhere is a low life. Not a guy better than Donovan and I’m glad he got what he wanted so bad, and put himself all over every form of media tonight. He did an incredible job tonight.

...and as for whoever said he’s had the biggest impact on the franchise since Stockton and Malone, it’s not even a question at this point. We are 58 games into this kids career and he has stolen every Jazz fans heart and is with no question the face of the franchise and the biggest bucket of marketing gold this franchise has ever had. He’s got a long road ahead, but his impact has already created more hope, hype, and love from the fan base than anyone since Karl and John.....and boy do I hope he and Rudy can one day cap it off with a title.
What? Dude, relax.

1. No one is trying to take anything away from Mitchell. Jesus Christ.
2. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Dunk contest are subjective and are judged by 5 humans (most of which have 0 qualifications). Just because someone didnt like a dunk Donovan did as much as you and DJ Khaled/Mark Whalberg did, doesnt mean they hate Donovan Mitchell or think he is any lesser of a NBA player.
3. He hasnt had a big of an impact as D-Will yet. He got the Jazz to a Conference Finals. Is he doing more at an earlier point than anyone else? Yes, definitely, but wait til he actually accomplishes what D-Will accomplished before he takes that spot.

I enjoyed it man.

Can one not enjoy something and also contextualize something? Or am I suppose to hoop and holler over dunks we have seen in past dunk contest?

Not every dunk contest is equal. This one was extremely mediocre. I think Donovan had the best overall set of dunks and deserved to win by the scoring system they use. I also don't think he had the best overall dunk of the night.

But I guess that is being a hater?

Yea it was a weak dunk contest. But Mitchell was the best out of all of them. And you can’t give 10s if a guy misses. I think that should deduct points.

I think they should get three dunks regardless of whether they make it and then add the three scores together.

That way we get more dunks, the players get to warm up, and they can build suspense for signature dunks. I want to see a dude nail 3 dunks in a row. Two pretty cool dunks and one oh my God.

If time is a problem drop the f****** skills challenge. That s*** is boring as hell

I disagree with the last part. If the dunk is great the dunk is great. Missed tries hurts the surprise factor, but the technical feat remains the same.

They did it that way (or very similar). It was the year John Wall was in it. It was a terrible format. It was the worst contest in recent memory iirc.

I think you want to limit the total dunks. It's already hard enough as is to create new dunks or creative variations on former dunks. Adding more dunks would just water it down further.

I just re-watched all of DeShawn Stevenson's dunks during his contest.

Man, that was a boring showing by him.

I gotta agree with Cy and the others with similar opinions. I wouldn't say this was a bad dunk contest, but it was kind of nondescript. Mitchell was the most consistently good which is why he won. While his dunks weren't incredibly innovative he does have a really flashy style when dunking them makes most of them look better at full speed. He had a couple interesting wrinkles that gave him just enough flash to carry some scores that were probably a little inflated.

DSJ and Nance really have no room to complain at all. DSJ choked badly on his first dunk and took himself out of the competition almost as badly as Oladipo. Nance got an inflated 49 on his second dunk, and his first one took like 3 tries amd was a worse version of his own father's dunk (the disrespect!). My only questionable moment for Spida was that last dunk. He should have gone with something more original, imo. Still a nice performance and we will take that W.
