Woman gets 10 Years in Prison for Selling $30 Worth of Weed in Oklahoma

You have different statistics then me, I was using a figure I read in an article a while back. Yours are probably more accurate. But I would imagine the cost of being close to 30 k a year, when you calculate everything associated with the legislation.

I wouldn't be surprised. But 16k a year is a pretty realistic guess for a minimum cost.

Now factor in teh fact that she HAD A JOB! She was likely paying taxes one way or another. She was providing care for her children. She was part of our wonderful society.

Now, well she's a caged animal. When her sentence is up she'll come out much worse for wear. He ability to get back into a decent job will be diminished. He relationship with her children will be strained if not broken.

My philosophy on crime and punishment is pretty basic.
#1 protect the innocent from those who have been proven to be a threat to them.
#2 deal with criminals in a way that has the best end result for the innocent.

Throwing away the life of a pot head does nothing for anyone. The negatives are overwhelming and the positives don't exist. This is a huge lose-lose.

I realize you're just trying be a dick and do your internet thing; but the article clearly states she was gainfully employed at the time of her arrest.

The article stated nothing about gainful employment. All it said was she worked somewhere BEFORE her arrest, not at the time. Gainful employment and working are two different things.

No, I'm not trying to be a dick. I love how you people jump on me, who never accepts government welfare, but you all stick up for the scumbag. Four kids and she does this? That's how much she cares about her kids right there.

You assume a lot with your blanket statement.

1- Define parasite (in your use of the word)
2- Please reference some facts that show there are multiple fathers.
3- Where does it say she is not married?

You have serious reading comprehension issues. First you can't figure out that I wasn't referring to you, and now offended that you weren't able to figure that out you need to resort to this. What do you think a parasite is? I never stated there were multiple fathers, I was making an assumption based on my life experiences in dealing with these bums. Same thing applies for number three. I'm all for you getting married and having children, I don't know why you took such offense to that.

She can't have kids in jail. That also prevents any future generations of parasites from her. SimpleHeel you have absolutely no idea of the 'opportunity cost' in this situation. Please, defend her and continue tear apart a hard working, church going, law abiding citizen like myself. It's quite pathetic.

I don't think you understand the concept of opportunity cost. Because the opportunity cost of this situation, is a women doing whatever she damn well pleases without a government authority figure playing the role of "parent". Also her being able to get a job, care for her children, and live her life. And us (the tax payer) saving close to a quarter of a million dollars.

What did you think the opportunity cost was?

For the record, I'd probably rather have this woman on my team than you. And while we're taking sides. I'll take Mark Cuban, The Beatles, and Richard Branson.

She's probably sold drugs before and probably never reported her income to the IRS. They should investigate her for tax evasion immediately.

$30 worth of weed...that could come out to a cool $5-10 she screwing the IRS out of!!!

You missed the part about me assuming that she has done it before. It could potentially be in the thousands!!!! I know it's pennies to the government though, just pointing out that there's probably two crimes here.

Yeah, but typically to tax someone you have to prove income. Not the income she "probably" made.

Plus at that point it seems like she could deduct the cost of her inventory purchases as a cost of goods sold.

That's why I said they should 'investigate' it. Also, I would doubt that you could deduct anything to do with illegal drugs. I could be wrong, I don't care to look. And I hate talking about taxes, what a pain in the ***.

I really like all those things. Except Richard Branson, and I'm going to say that one is a push. Sloanfeld is worse, but far less rich/powerful so I'm happy calling that one a draw.

How can you not like Richard Branson?

Anyway Sloanfeld saw his argument slipping away from him, and he instantly switched to "tax evasion"

what a maroon.

Spottedcrow worked in a nursing home, and her and her mother were caught selling illegal drugs from her house on two seperate occasions with her children present.
I'm not really gonna shed a tear for her getting some consequences for her illegal activity.

Yeah, that's totally worth 10 years in prison. Oh no, pot was sold in front of children. They are destined to grow up to be criminals for sure.

Meanwhile, some drunk idiot in Oklahoma can savagely beat someone up and only face a maximum of 5 years in prison. Wonderful state. It's good to see they have their priorities in order.

There are 50 states to choose from. They all have jacked up justice systems in one way or other because lawyers run it.

Marijuana is less destructive that alcohol. Why not just end Prohibition II and just legalize it. It's just hypocritical to me to have alcohol and tobacco 100% legal and marijuana illegal.

Might as well generalize this statement to the whole damn country.

There are more arrests in America for simple possession of marijuana (that is, without the intent to sell) than ALL violent crimes combined.

and again,

There are more arrests in America for simple possession of marijuana (that is, without the intent to sell) than ALL violent crimes combined.

The War on Drugs is a scam. It destroys individuals and families, supports and promotes violent organized crime, and is ridiculously expensive. It is, as a part of the growing Prison Industrial Complex in America, the biggest reason I now feel I cannot return to America, my home. I will gladly pay for what some might consider exorbitant social programs to live free in Canada and avoid having to support the authoritarian war/prison machine in America.

****.

All the goverment has to do is legalize it, and regulate it like tobacco and alcohol, and this woman would be paying those taxes.

And, for the dude, do you have a problem with what I posted? Are you not concerned with your government throwing away truck loads of your hard earned cash to lock up non-violent people who are otherwise able to contribute to society?

This woman hurt no one by selling $30 of weed. No doubt, that money went to help feed her family. Heaven forbid we should allow someone to sell harmless substances to consenting adults.
