Chad Ford on Utah Jazz picks and Jimmer

My whole argument is that those who bash Kanter for missing his freshman season and say that he could not have improved going against chairs for a year, are disregarding the fact that Irving is not going into the draft any better than he would have had he sat out the entire season.

"Better suited?" As in he would've come back to earth and his stock would've fallen? Not necessarily. He could've improved (he had/has a lot of room to grow as a distributor still), also, and had he and his team actually been gelled going into the tournament, he probably would have a national championship too.

We can play Monday Morning Quarterback all day about this, but what happened, happened.

Well it did improve Nolan Smith's numbers which in turn have led a few people on this board wanting us to draft him. no thanks.

Right. But I think calling the injury "BETTER suited" for him is pretty outrageous.

It's called sarcasm. "better suited" is in reference to his overall ability to play basketball, not his draft stock. My point was to show people that Kanter had a year to at least work on his game/get in shape, whereas Irving played in 11 games and then got fat. This isn't a knock on Irving at all, I'd still take him #1, but I'm just exposing a hole in a lot of people's argument against Kanter.

Well, 11 games is A LOT more than Kanter has played, and also Irving could practice with the team. Kanter played 0 games and could only practice against assistant coaches the year. And no, I am not counting friendly pick-up games where he was supposedly dominant. More importantly though, after missing part of the year Irving came in and played very well against good players in a competetive setting. Kanter has never played against good players in a competetive settings. Is that really that hard to see a difference between the year Irving had, where he played and proved himself and the one Kanter had, where he practiced against assistant coaches and never proved anything.

Kanter not playing for a year may be the biggest blessing in disguise in the history of the Utah Jazz.

As I said in another thread, I think it's extremely likely that had Kanter played 1 season @ Kentucky, he'd be the consensus #1 overall pick. Utah wouldn't have gotten a sniff of him at #3.

Or Kanter could have played 1 year of Kentucky, not been that great and that Jazz would have seen how much of a bust he is. Could go either way. Could be a blessing, or a curse.

This is not a homer post, it's a corrective one .. just getting facts straight.

Kanter WAS allowed to have full practices with the team pending the NCAA ruling. He had almost 3 months before he had to sit. For those that don't know, Calipari's practices are anything but non-competitive.

From what I recall, didn't you get to see some of his practices? Word is he flat dominated. Was that the case?

Btw is awkward posting after you are legally deceased?

I wouldn't say awkward as much as it is tedious now

I actually agree, but anybody who already doesn't like Kanter would jump all over the reports if it was being said he struggled mightily during Kentucky's practices.

As they should. A top-3 pick had better dominate their practices. That's the basement of what they should be doing.

I agree with all that. Let's just say this, seeing him practice, playing against Nazr and Demarcus ... I saw what makes me 100% comfortable .. I formed my opinion.

Can you tell us a little more about Kanter's battles with Cousins and Nazr? Were they really trying hard or just messing around?

I wish I could say they were, but it wasn't 100%. Nazr was getting a little heated so that one was pretty tough (and Kanter was a GIANT in that matchup ... not even fair). With Cousins, it was clear that Enes was the far better athlete, far more polished, and I believe would have won a head-to-head at 100%.

Jan Vesely is going to be an all-star in this league.

He's a super athletic 6'11" inside/outside scoring machine and explosive as heck.

His 39 inch vertical leap is incredible for a 6'11" player.

Much better prospect than Danilo Gallinari ever was and he's turned out to be a darn good NBA player.
