What Should Be Worked On?

I’m extremely excited to see how Mitchell, Rubio, Exum, Crowder, O’Neale and others come back after a full healthy off season under this coaching staff.

What specifically do the more analytical and basketball minded posters think each player should work on? Expectations? Hopes for return performances?

I've got no analytics or evidence..but..

Rudy needs to work on a jump shot (to keep defenders honest) and a strong offensive post move that works and free throws.

Faves (if still around) needs to keep working at his 3 point shot. He might need to reduce body fat, and try to get a good balance between lean muscle, power and speed..

Ingles ..probably just needs to maintain his overall fitness.. but probably should work on the right hand corner 3 or left wing 3.

Donovan.. hopefully when he is health needs to work on his 3 point shooting around the top of the arc and wing areas. A harden travel step would be handy and also perhaps better ball handling for point guard duties.

Ricky, Exum and O'Neale need to learn how to finish around the rim and control their layups. Also jump shots and floaters...Ricky and Exum could also do with working out their upper bodies to obtain more strength.

Jae Crowder .. Probably needs to work on quickness and overall shooting

Alec Burks .. defense and decision making with the ball.

Thabo .. needs to get off the weed and be a better example as a vet

I want a better balance between emphasizing transition D and trying to grab an offensive rebound.

I want better defensive rebounding.

I want someone heaving up a shot from full court regardless of there only being 1.5 seconds or left on the shot clock. You don’t heave the ball, you sit the next quarter.

Hit free throws.

Foul hard.

Press the 8 seconds on an inbound when teams don’t expect it.

The Jazz were 4th in defensive rebounding this year, and the difference between them and the team in 1st was less than a percentage point.

Lets talk about Jae Crowder for a minute...

I like that he can defend 3 or possibly 4 positions out on the floor. He's a good defender, though not really a shut-down defender.

I like that he plays with a lot of energy and works within the system.

However...

He's not much of a rebounder.

He doesn't set great screens.

He's not much of a help defender.

He's not an initiator.

He's an okay finisher, but not a great one.

His shooting is streaky, at best.

I think he's a back-up, and after another team offers Favors more money and more minutes than the Jazz likely will, we're going to need a starter in our front court.

Exum needs to sign a fair contract with the Jazz. He needs to work on a midrange jump shot and pull up jump shot. Get more diversity in his offensive game.

DM needs to work on consistency with his 3 pt shot. He didn't shoot it well in this last series. Needs work on cutting down turnovers. Get healthy.

Jazz need to decide what to do with Burks. He showed well against Houston. I think he can be a useful bench player but you have to live with his wildness. He needs to work on his decision making and get some arch on his shot.

Rudy needs to add a jump shot to his game and maybe a jump hook shot. Still needs to get stronger.

Derrick- don't think he will be back, but it would be wonderful if he improved his 3 pt shooting.

Oneile needs to work on his shooting. Work on finishing around the rim. He played well tonight. He just needs to play like tonight on a more regular basis.

INgles needs to work on remaining in shape. Being more assertive on offense.

Dennis and Quinn need to get together and talk about how they can compete with the big boys. What this team needs to take the next step.

Lets see what he is after working with our staff for an off season. Its hard to fit in mid season and by all accounts our offense is more complicated than other teams. He just needs to shoot better.

Outside of Ingles our whole team needs to shoot better.

We also need to work on being healthy. The Rockets were pretty much 100% healthy. If we switched health roles I believe we win that series. If we are healthy and they are healthy I think we push them to game 7.

We missed Rubio soo sooo much that series.

try to keep everyone in a good contract and find another scorer.... free agency or call denver.

Rudy: never forget you can put and catch the ball higher than anyone else. Add a simple hook shot.

Coaching staff/team: start preaching charges. Rudy has to be able to pressure the ballhandler on a switch in this league and there needs to be bodies ready to plant behind him and everyone else rotating hard.

Mitchel: improve vision and passing, learn to initiate contact and get to the line better.

Ingles: put on a bunch of muscle, practice boxing out, contesting at the rim, and taking charges. The time for him to play the 4 has come.

Rubio: add some (AKA "any") damn arc to your shot.

Everyone: keep being my favorite favorite team.

Exum needs to work on his ball handling finishing and 3 point shot.

Mitchell his dribble can become elite I think(curry/harden/Irving like). Needs to work on his Pull up and step back 3.

O'Neale can be more of a versatile scorer and finisher. His shot will improve pretty naturally.

Crowder, shot selection...

Gobert. Hands and keeping the ball above his head. Lay it in If needed rather than go for the hammer dunk. Favors is good at the quick jump dunk without lowering the ball.

Favors, corner 3.

Ingles, just don't force passes, otherwise I'm happy with his game.

Rubio. Just keep doing what he's doing to work on the shot.

Royce, Ricky, Exum finishing at the rim. Pretty much everyone finishing at the rim and shooting.

Royce and Crowder decision making. Same for Exum.

If Donovan improves his off the bounce 3 pt shooting and can play more off ball as well i can see him averaging 25

I'd like to see Rudy's summer workouts resemble the battle scene in GOT where the giants have a bunch of whitewalkers crawling all over them, cause he needs to get better at trying to play basketball with two guys holding his arms and another pushing the living f*** out of him.

Exum ... pull up shot for farks sake mate. He can get that shot anytime.
