The Ultimate Best Elite World-Class Jazz Off-Season Guide

It's not that elite, especially if Thompson agrees to an extension which it seems 90% likely he will do.

The biggest name will be Leonard and he isnt coming to Utah. Other than that, and the yearly Lebron sweepstakes the Jazz have no chance in, it's not much besides RFA's who will be matched unless you drastically overpay.

Maybe the Jazz have a shot at Jimmy Butler? But I doubt it.

The RFA class IS elite.

I'm surprised this isnt being more well received. It addresses every concern the team has (scoring, shooting, defense against top teams). I do get the Jabari apprehension with his health, but you have to take a shot at some point and betting on free agency in 2019 seems like a bigger risk than Jabari's health.
The question is about the opportunity cost - can we do better than Jabari for example in 2019 FA? If you give those contracts and get Jabari, you pretty much are set with this team and this core. Do you think Jabari is good enough (and sure enough to stay healthy) to send us into the upper level of contenders?

BTW Jabari looks exactly like the type of player HOU would isolate Harden against and let him cook him. I agree with Nate Duncan about this - those playoffs are showing one thing - if you want to compete at the highest level you need to have a starting lineup of switchable defenders. Otherwise the GSWs and HOU's of the world would target this defender again and again and again... until you either take him out or lose.

If he plays at the level he did before his most recent injury (and he showed enough in his return to believe he isn't toasted), combined with continued development of Donovan et al, then yea, probably.

I think one RFA has changed teams after being extended the QO in the past 20 years or so. it's some ridiculously small number. The Jazz arent getting Porziningis, Towns, Booker, etc.

Agreed. But all are in precarious situations.

They will all ve offered MAX deals but is there anyway of adding extra favourable conditions that their teams will be forced to match? Didnt this happen with Porter?

You arent completely set into it. Also, the cap is going to rise a lot with the new gambling laws at some point. Plus you can opt out of Parker in the 2020 off-season if it doesnt work out. The Jazz can get to 20 million in cap-space (probably more if the cap rises more than it's currently projected like it should) in 2020 if they want to under my signings.

Keeping cap space open simply to **** with already troubled franchises is not going to get you anywhere. Of all the possible strategies, this seems like the absolute most counterproductive.

Who?

KAT is getting matched no matter what.
Porzingis is getting matched no matter what.
Booker is getting matched no matter what.
Russell is probably getting matched no matter what.

That's the cream. Then you have guys like Kelly Oubre and Stanley Johnson. You really want to overpay to get Kelly Oubre?

I’ve been selling this narrative too. Butler, Leonard, Thompson never end up as free agents... all get extensions.

RFA that are good don’t change teams... go ahead and try.

We are looking at Niko, Harris, Middleton. I think Middleton would be huge and is really underrated... Harris and Niko are nice too but Khris would be the prime target.

Jabari just did this in April. How can you watch this and not see a dominant player?

Take a look at 48 seconds. Really? Thats not an elite athlete?

I love Middleton too, but if the Bucks are moving off Jabari, then that means they are going to want to keep Middleton. Not that Milwaukee is some perfect situation he would be crazy to leave, but they do have Giannis and can pay him more than Utah can.

Cy's seen the light on Jarrami Grant finally. I was a big proponent of his in that draftees thread infact i remember repeating " Jerami Grant can bring to the table many of the tools ofAaron Gordon, for much cheaper'

Yes but Giannis will only have 2 years on his deal at that point. They likely lose Jabari, Bledsoe or Brogdnon... and have given away future picks. They are in a tough cap spot and I’m not sure they’d offer him 30M+ max. I think he’s great but that might be a bit of an overpay... an overpay I think we are in a better position to afford.

He may want to stay but another season in the middle and a big payday may be appealing. I think he’s the most gettable of the guys I really really want... I think Harris and Niko are gettable and will require 20-25M per season to pry them away. Clips depends on what their FA plans are and NO depends on what happens with Boogie.

Draft Elie Okobo tho? Glad to see that name posted more and more. I remember firstt posting bout him here when dx had him as the 37th best prospect born in 97

Honestly we need to find the next Harris, Middleton, etc. that is why I’d try and use the unguranteeds to take on one year salary to get picks if possible.

Basically you are either hoping KD isn’t healthy in the playoffs sometime in the next 3-4 years or you are trying to get a championship when that team ages out. We need as many bites at the apple as possible. Having a Kuzma level success in the 20s drastically changes our outlook.

I dont think you ever want to overpay. It always comes back to bite you.

No way do you give 20-25 mil to Harris. He is in no way worth that much money. That would be a franchise killer. Jabari is way better than Harris.

Jabari hate and Harris love. I really dont get wtf people are watching. Probably neither is my guess.

The max Utah can give Middleton is 32 million in the first year with 5% yearly increases. Utah would have to get Rubio on a 15-17 million a year extension and not sign Exum or Favors this off-season.
