Jazz Pre-Draft Workouts

i like kemba walker more than brandon knight. knight might have the better size and can become more of a pure point guard by time as kemba ever will, but kembas quickness and athleticizm is off the charts. you have to pair him with a point forward or a solid two guard that can pass the ball, so you let him play a little bit off the ball and he will be even more efficient. i'm high on this guy. but todays point guards are getting bigger and bigger... realistic case: a more athletic version of jameer nelson and his best case is allen iverson. i expect him to become a mix of this two players, while kemba will never be as good as an outside shooter as nelson...

The fact that the Jazz are spending 2 days in Chicago to spend time with Kanter 1-on-1, even after they already saw him workout individually, says something. Clearly he's on the short list.... or this is an elaborate smokescreen.

Word is that the workout is actually today, not yesterday AND today as originally reported...

Brain Smith tweet
"Kanter's workout with Jazz was productive and went well. Focused on offensive game."

Huge news I know, Probably should start a few threads about it.

Thank you for sharing. So much cloak and dagger going on around this workout.

Also from Brian Smith's twitter

As Fredette's draft stock rises, he said it's more important to him to land with a team that "fits" than to be selected as high as possible.

Sounds like Jimmer doesn't want his stock to rise higher than the Jazz.

Jazz are handling the Kanter workout weird. Wondering if they are trying to bluff people.

Maybe they are trying to scare a team like the Cavs into think they will take him at 3 and leave them with Jonas or Jan. Or maybe they are trying to make it seem like they don't care for him so the Wolves will decide to pass on him. So much cloak and dagger going on.

Locke just had this to say on Twitter:

"Jazz being very smart about Kanter. Make everyone believe you might take him. He has value someone might offer a lot for the pick."

What difference would there be if KOC said, "Great workout, fantastic player, we really like him" or said nothing? The point is KOC never says anything about any player. That's his media GM persona.

But the game is played on the phone. Other GM's know what type of poker player he is. They've gone round after round with him. They're either smart enough to pick up his tells in conversation or they aren't.

I think there must be a lot of new jazz fans on the board. KOC never says anything. This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone who has followed the Jazz for any amount of time.

As far as Kanter... Would it really matter if it was said that he looked fantastic and what we're hearing right now? Kanter is easily a top 4 pick. The order is going to be determined by need. If Minny wants to repeat Love, then they'll draft him. If Minny doesn't want to repeat their SFs, then they'll probably draft Kanter.

There's always the possibility that a team moves up in the draft via trade. Yet, I haven't heard any credible source state the a certain team wants to trade up in this draft. And quite honestly, with so many question marks about the players in consideration, I doubt many teams are going to "fall in love" with the top players enough to trade up for them.

I hope that Cleveland rumor materializes so they get the top 2 picks. That would make Kanter @ 3 much more secure.

The Year that KOC traded up with Portland to draft D.Will, he was vocal about praising some of the players that worked out for the Jazz beforehand. For example, he was publicly praising Martell Webster as a "stone shooter." It seemed like he was telling other teams, "Hey we're content to stay where we are at #6 and draft Webster," so that other teams wouldn't try to foil negotiations the Jazz were having for the #3 pick. If anything, it looks like the more quiet the Jazz are about an important draft or trade move, the more serious they are about it.

But this could be the smokescreen they're trying to create this time around. Maybe the Jazz want someone to take Kanter at #1 or #2 so we get Williams at #3. Maybe the Jazz want someone to make them an offer for #3. Anything could be in play at this point.

It would be very easy for the Jazz to offer a player they want to move and #3 to Minnesota for #2. That's a good move both ways.

I have read every post carefully and appreciate everyone's input. I have come to my own conclusion ... we know nothing. Draft day party will be EPIC.

This.

I am positive there are going to be some very good players that come out of this draft, I just really don't know who.
