So I thought that this would be an interesting exercise. Name one pick that you feel confident will happen, one pick that is being projected in mock drafts that you don't think will happen, and one pick that you think gets traded.

Confident it will happen- Deandre Ayton to the Suns at 1. I'll take the easiest path on this one lol.
Don't think it will happen- Trae Young to the Magic at 6. Their GM typically values size/length/athleticism.
Pick that gets traded- Denver trades away 14.

Confident the Grizzlies take Bagley if he is available.
Confident whoever the mocks say Utah will draft, they wont draft that person.

Confident - Jaren Jackson to the Hawks. Bamba is an option but with collins not a 3 point shooter Jackson is an amazing fit and Jackson is a pretty good defender in his own right.

Don't think - Ayton to the Suns. Doncic is the best player hands down in this draft and teams are going to regret passing on him. Don't negate the Kokoksov signing either. A front court of Doncic, booker and Jackson is huge. I also think Ayton isn't all that great defensively.

Traded - Hawks pick 30. they don't need 3 rookies on first round contracts

1. Magic at #6 with Trae Young. Seems like a pick they would make. Fits a positional need and gets them attention.
2. Collin Sexton to the Cavs. I just don't think he's a great fit if they do make the pick.
3. Our pick at #21. Either up or down, I'd be shocked if we actually picked at #21.
 
The guy that no one seems to be talking about here or elsewhere is Gary Trent Jr. Just for reference, if we compare Trent Jr. to Huerter, Trent is younger, longer, has a better body, posted a slightly better max vert, shot more 3s at over 40% as a freshman, shot 12% better at the FT line and had more steals. Trent can also handle comfortably in the pick-and-roll and do pretty much everything Rodney Hood gave us.

And yet here we are working out Grayson Allen...



 
Trent Jr. is intriguing. Seems like the type guy who goes under the radar, gets drafted late in the 1st then turns into an Eric Gordon type player when he figures it out.
 
Back in the early 2000s I really wanted Gary Trent Sr.

He's more athletic and versatile than he seems to be getting credit for. He's not 'just a shooter.' I think he's a better player than Huerter. Guess I'll add him to my sig.

I've always assumed he'd get picked within a few spots of Troy Brown, but mocks seem not to think so.

Trent is a 2 and only a two with a standing reach of 8'2".

The last point in the most damning. "Opponents relentlessly attacked him in college. NBA teams will do the same unless he learns how to defend off-ball as well as he scores."

Why draft a defensive weakness?

Yeah, well Rodney Hood wasn't a great defender either. BTW, all these things could also have been said about Devin Booker. He has the tools to defend well enough if he'll use them. Not sure what's going on with the standing reach figure. He's 6'6" with nearly a 6'9" wingspan. Maybe he shortened it to increase his max vert.

Trent’s wingspan is 1.25” longer but Huerter’s standing reach is 3.5” longer.

Confident will - Okobo goes before the Jazz #sad
Confident won't - Troy Brown top 15
Trade - Sactp out of #2
 
Trent's natural position is at the 2-guard, but he'd fit into a spread-floor, positionless system. He can play next to Mitchell and share some of the on-ball duties.
 
Trent Jr could be a nice 3 point specialist. A sniper off of someones bench. I'm not sure I see him being much more than that.
 
Is Huerter a good defender? His weak frame and short wingspan are defensive concerns, are they not?

Is Trent really that much worse of a defender than Huerter? Or Brown?
