Tobias Harris?

So you dont believe that stats that Favors was one of our best players when he was on the court in the playoffs? Or you believe that Harris would make us even better than that?

The only thing that concerns me about Favors is his health. This is 2 years in a row that he has been hurt in the playoffs and it hurt us. But Rubio being injured hurt us even more. The Jazz need to be healthy in the playoffs.

One of the biggest factors for the Jazz is that they need to be better in the regular season so we are not desperately fighting to make the playoffs. That is why we are not healthy in the playoffs. Great teams rest their guys and make sure they are healthy and ready to go come playoffs. The Jazz have not had that luxury the last 2 years.

Personally I think if Favors, Rubio, and Exum are healthy against Houston we either win or push them to the brink and lose in the series this year.

One more player who is an all-star level player would really help but a lot of that help would come in the grind of the regular season.

I think Favors is an asset and helps us win against most teams in the league. I also believe that Favors does not help us as much against Houston or Golden State (in the playoffs) as they are constructed. Against those small lineups, it is very hard to play Favors and Gobert on both ends of the court. Offensively, we need spacing and defensively, we need 4 guys who are really good perimeter defenders to put with Gobert. It's not that Favors is bad, but he's not so good defensively to give up what we are offensively.

In a perfect world, we say screw the luxury and Favors sits a little more and we keep him and add a really good stretch 4. We then treat him like the Warriors do Iggy and McGee. Sometimes, Favors might start and play 30 minutes. Sometimes, he might play 15 off the bench.

You make an excellent point about the season. We do need to take care of more close games so we can rest appropriately through the season.

Favors can guard guys on the perimeter and switch on defense better than Harris though. He is pretty good at that and still able to protect the rim when teams pull Gobert out.

Ideally we find someone who can do that and shoot. I'm not sure who that is that is attainable.

Very good points. Favors seems like a big man version of Andre Iguodala. If you can afford to keep him around, he's extremely helpful. I really wish we had blank checks like other franchises.

FWIW, the Millers have stated repeatedly they would go into the tax if they had a contender. They would make back a lot of that on playoff games. The Warriors banked 130m for their run the year, and I'd argue our fanbase is more rabid than the Bay Area. And the bandwagon factor cash in to and they will be fine.

Doesn’t matter who’s more rabid. It matters how many fans are attending and how much those tickets are.

If the Dubs made 130M this postseason, we probably only made about 20-25M I’d guess.

That's true, but that's the difference between a playoff and championship contender.

I agree with that idea but I definitely dont think Harris is someone that makes a difference in contending or not. I think he is a lateral move from Favors. He is definitely better at shooting but worse at just about everything else.

Favors does so many little things that make a difference. There is a reason he was our second best net rating in the playoffs next to Rubio.

I am not opposed to Harris but if we are trading our pick I hope we aim for a higher ceiling guy. I think Mirotic and Parker are better players and fit this team better. But even so I hope we swing higher than even those 3. We need a legit All-star level player.

First part of your post made sense— but you *completely* lost me with the Parker Mirotic ideas. Both are firmly in an echelon below Tobias

I think they are both better than him but I agree with being in similar echelons. Parker has a higher ceiling though with a little higher risk though. I also think they are better fits.

Tobias Harris would be a PERFECT fit for this team. Less hyped than other similar players. VERY versatile. Capable scorer and solid defender. Room to take another step as a player. I think he becomes an all star in Utah. I think he fits a lot better than Hayward did because he is a better defender, more versatile, and younger. Count me IN on that train.

How to make it happen? I will leave that to others. But he's now on my short list.

I doubt the Clippers want to move on from him though. He is the versatile player that everyone is coveting. Why not keep him for another year?

It's not really feasible to trade for him right now, but there are two seemingly realistic options.

1) The Clippers are struggling next year and if it's obvious Tobias Harris won't re-sign, they'll likely want to go into take mode and will trade Harris for young future assets. It probably won't take a ton to get him at that point either. The Jazz will be in a great position to do a deal because of the expiring contracts they have.

2) The Jazz just sign Harris outright after next season as a free agent with their cap space.

Favors is a wonderful player and I love what he brought this year. If he is back great! But Tobias is more versatile, can ACTUALLY spread the floor, makes us longer / more athletic, is younger, and can play the modern 3 or 4 all day long. Count me in.

I like Favors but if he wants to start then the conversation ends there. I will be very disappointed if we spend the next few years trying to make Gobert and Favors work together as starters. Playing two Centers at a time when the whole league is going small is just stupid.

Now if he loves playing here, can’t get a good deal elsewhere, or whatever. I’ll make him the highest paid backup center in the league. And he’d be a great guy off the bench to use situationally at other times. But I don’t think that scenario is likely.

Every single stat says that we are way better with a 4 who is a threat from the three point line along with our usual starters. Our defense takes little or no hit, and our offense explodes. And Crowder is not exactly a great stretch four.

Time to move on or adapt. Running out the same starting five opening day next year is just treading water. Our offense needs to take the next step. I’d rather start someone like Bjelly over Favors at this point. Until we see evidence that all of those stats were bogus then I will continue to beleive that a PF who can really shoot is absolutely essential for the team.
