Hernandez was dropping like he'd been shot and simulating every time he was touched, he ended up drawing an early yellow on Matt Leckie and spent the rest of the match repeating his nonsense it was disgusting to watch.

The penalty was given for what looked like an excellent challenge by our fullback Risdon, to the naked eye it looks like Risdon wins the ball, when slowed down it looks like he doesn't, to the naked eye it looked fair to me.

I despise those players like Hernandez. I feel like the VAR thing is going to change the game in a big way if it ends up being implemented worldwide.

It shouldn't be, for one it slows the game down, it also cannot be implemented in the same way worldwide with camera standards differing between leagues and countries. Human error is also a part of life and should be a part of sport, there is a great joy in getting the train home after a game and question the morality of the refs mother. Also kids who watch games and play sport should learn to accept the umpires decision and get on with things.
 
World cup is a lot like city rec league soccer. A lot of pushing and falling down...sometimes it is a foul other times it is not.

Dude you're old... USA 94 for me, i was twelve. first game i remember watching was Australia vs Argentina from the Sydney Football Stadium in 1993
 
My worst world cup memory was when we failed to qualify in 97 for France 98 against Iran.



Its worth skipping to the end to watch the post game interviews and wrap up. Still remember that night, i was at mates 16th B'day it was like being at wake.

I have a question for all of my knowledgable soccer fans out there.....
So i have watched 3 penalty kicks so far this year. One was by rinaldo and he kicked to one side of the goal and the goalie dove the other way and it was a wide open easy goal for rinaldo.
Then i saw messi kick to one side of the goal and the goalie dove to that same side and blocked it.
Then i saw one other dude (cant remember his name) who kicked it way over the goal and the goalie dove to one side of the goal.
On all three attempts the goalie picked a side to dive to and dove that way.... They made the decision of which side to dive to before the ball was kicked. (im assuming because there is no time to react if you wait for the ball to be kicked)
I have seen the same thing happen over and over again in years past.

So, as the kicker, it seems that if you kick to the right you have a nearly 50% chance that the goal will be open (goalie choses to dive to the left) and if you kick to the left you have a nearly 50% chance that the goal will be open (goalie chooses to dive to the right). But why not just kick it nice and easy right down the middle? Seems like that way you have a nearly 100 percent chance that the goal will be open and you dont even need to kick it very hard since the goalie will have already jumped to one side of the goal. In all three penalty kicks i have seen so foar this year kicking it softly straight to the middle of the goal would have been the best decision every time yet no one did it that way. Why is that?

Statistically kicking it straight down the middle is the best thing to do but no player wants to do that and have the keeper save it and look like a goose.

For the most part the keeper chooses a side and then has miliseconds to see if the ball goes a different direction. If you kick it down the middle chances are greater that the keeper lucks out and is able to react in those miliseconds and just stay put.

The best is to kick it hard and to one side. If you kick it hard even if the keeper jumps to the same side he may not have time to get to the ball.
 
damn Danes dodged the bullet couple times here and missed a great chance by themselves as well.

What you’re describing is called “Panenka goal”, which requires good skills:

 


Without doubt my favourite world cup memory, i still can't for the life of me remember where i watched the game tho.
