What's new

Wiggins, KAT, Jabari Parker, Bledsoe on the trade block?

If we moved for Wiggins and it failed, it would ruin the remainder of Ingles and Gobert's primes. Its too big of a gamble. I'm an optimist, but its not worth it.

The one rule I have learned from watching the NBA for years is that you should avoid players that pout like you would avoid last week's sushi. I mean players can be controversial and vociferous and be great (Karl Malone) but with dudes that passive aggressively pout (like AK, DWill, and Kanter) you are going to run into problems down the line. Sometimes that trait is unknowable until it is too late. We know that about Wiggins.

That he's a pouter? I've never heard that used to describe him, and it's not what Butler is critical of him for.

LOL... Wiggins would be an amazing piece in Utah.

The wolves have made terrible personnel moves, they've terribly misplayed a very good hand they were dealt...

Dude starts a 4/$146,450,000 next year. That is more than 36 million a year on average for 4 years.

God damn. Never mind, I don’t want him anymore.
Let the wolves be ****ed in cap hell.

I hope I've been clear on the parameters of a trade here (light on the assets sent, largely a salary dump) and that I understand it's a lot of money.

The Jazz are asset-poor right now. They have to find some way to generate players from the cap flexibility they have before they have to pay Mitchell. They have to take a chance or just have to hope that a late pick turns into gold. I also am not gung-ho on the idea, but I think there's something there.

I don't think Wiggins is a finished product, and if his biggest weakness is he's laid back, that is kind of the best-case scenario for character issues.

So we would have him on contract longer than Gobert. Man, I just haven't seen enough to justify that, especially as he starts running into Mitchel's next contract.
The talent is there. I think the question is everything else, and I think the Jazz are as good a bet at addressing the "everything else" as any situation in the league.

I guess I would like to see if we could lure in Parker who is still a gamble but for something like 35% off full Wiggins prices.

This isn't upside money, though. That's bona fide superstar money.

You don't throw that kind of cash at a guy who under the right circumstances, might be a difference maker. You throw it at a difference maker.
In a perfect world.

The Jazz have to pull **** if they want to improve their chances of having a consistent offensive contributor next to Mitchell. That's just how it is.

That being said, Wiggins has been very inefficient. There is a lot to have pause about.

Like Donovan when he becomes eligible for the super max. Wiggins' contract doesn't scare me for the 1st two years. It's 3-5 when it becomes a millstone.

It would be a risk but I would trade for Wiggins. But I would not give up any important players. I would only take him as a salary dump. I doubt Minny is willing to go for that yet.

He has his flaws but has all the potential and tools in the world. His stats last year are almost identical to Mitchells this year in a similar role. I think our staff could do wonders for him and he would be walking onto Mitchell's team.

I think there is a small chance that Wiggins could fufill his potential, but Im not counting on it.

My problem with his game, and the problem I still have with his game is that his handles are aren't great. What separates 3D average wings and guards from superstars, imo, is the ability to put the ball on the floor and control that thing likes its on a string. You've got to be able to move your defender whenever you want. Split defenders. Break down defenses. Put pressure on defenses. Force switches, etc..All that stuff that having a great handle does. It really is the biggest difference between the stars and non stars. In Wiggins I see a guy with very rudimentary handles. Maybe he can get better at it, but I doubt it. You can jump high and shoot great all you want, but you get stuck at a certain level if you dont improve the handles. People think its his lack of aggression. Its not really. Its that he doesnt have the skill to look agressive. Having great handles makes you look agressive.

He also doesnt collect a lot of rebounds, blocks, steals, or assists. Lacking assists can also be another sign of not having great handles.

So what would we be getting? A glorified shooter and dunker? Just sign a Gerald Green type instead right?

On a similar topic, its why I have always loved Jabari. Dude can put the ball on the floor a lot better than Wiggins. I saw that a long time ago. I have very old threads pointing this out. But nobody wanted to hear it.

Jabari's knee scares the hell out of me, but Id way rather take a chance on him. There is way more potential there.
