I think his contributions to the team rely on context more than they do for most players. In other words, he wins certain matchups, and loses others. He's the hinge-point on matchups, and against modern teams, he loses most of them as a starting 4. It feels like the staff has to put extra effort in making sure he's put in a position to succeed when they could be devoting that time/energy into something else, in addition to creating a smoother rotation.

Again, I think the net is the fit is okay-to-good, but it isn't ideal, and I don't want to tie up cap or the possibility of developing another player for that. I think he makes a pretty good starting C, which he won't be here.

It’s a cause and effect question for me... could we be as good or better with a true stretch 4 or a playmaking 4? I believe we could even if that player isn’t as good as Favs in a vacuum. I think because our defensive scheme doesn’t change when he is the center that he isn’t as good as a backup center on defense. In a switching scheme he could be better... idk... I just think there is a good chance we both move on this offseason and both may be better for it.

The only guy I see in this draft that has the size to play the 4, can stretch the floor, has the mobility to rotate to the rim to contest, AND the shotblocking chops is KBD. That is huge for me, and as fit goes, might do better here than either of the Bridges in that respect. It's not a sexy pick, but it might just be the right one at the end of the night.

I think our defense was good enough and most of our issues were on offense. I don’t think we can be the suffocating defense we are against mega offensive powers... I think we changed their shot mix and they made enough... our offense was ugly because only one guy could create.

I think you are right on KBD... he is long enough to contest weakside... not sure he’s quick enough. He isn’t very explosive.

I just get real concerned about this 5-out thing with Rudy. He can't be the ENTIRE defense, especially against teams that can go 5-out and get him on a switch. It's a vulnerability for this team moving forward, and the Jazz don't have a chance against the Houstons, Golden States, and Bostons of the world if they can't figure out some contingencies for those type of plays.

I think the ideal answer is the Jazz need more firepower to keep up, but getting that firepower is likely more-difficult. If both issues can be addressed simultaneously? Even better.

The dream draft for me is getting Huerter and KBD somehow (I'm seeing him mocked all over the place, even in the early 40's).
 
Does anyone think Atlanta or Phoenix would want to trade up from 30-something to #21 and take Burks' contract, considering that's most-likely what their cap room will be utilized for and that they have a ton of picks?

I guess it's possible. I'm not sure why the Jazz would want to make a trade like that though. Unless we really need that cap space to sign someone who has agreed to a deal in free agency (like Paul George) I don't think we'll be in a rush to trade Burks.
 
Steve Kyler just implied that Houston is trying to get into the middle of the first round. Not sure how unless they are trading Eric Gordon.

That's pretty much it. The draft is pretty flat from 20 to 40, IMO, so the Jazz could still feasibly get a guy they seriously weighed at 21 that much later.

It would just be nice to be in-position if they're serious about chasing George, and Burks is the most problematic hitch in that plan.

I think if they were able to get a commitment from a player like PG then they would be able to find a deal to move Burks rather quickly. Even though the talent from 20-40 is similar I'm not sure that they would want to trade back just to move Burks. Especially when there is no guarantee in free agency.

Right, I think the deals are just easier to swing tonight so that teams can select players for other teams instead of just hope that a guy they select is one that a prospective salary dump team really wants.

But let's say - for example - that the Jazz seriously weigh KBD or DD at 21 and one of them are there at 30, 31, or 34. You theoretically lose little or maybe even nothing in the exchange, getting something for little-to-nothing in the scheme of things. That's more what I'm driving at.
