What's new

Jazz Free Agency Summer of 2018

Yeah I still think he's our next best target (PG13 being the best).

He's just a perfect fit for our team. We can hide him defensively next to Gobert too. Offensively he's gonna create so much room for Mitchell.

He's also European and has played with Rubio. I mean there isn't a better fit.

I like him... he isn't a stiff either... can put the ball down and attack close outs.

Anything around 7-7.5M will put the wolves in the tax. 2/15 second year team option or like 1M guaranteed. I might do like 3/20 and front load it... depends on what DLs plans are for FA.

I'd pay up to $10m for him. I think he's that good a fit for us. Let Favors walk (sorry).

With all these players opting in and the expected one-year deals--does Alec Burks and his one-year deal have any trade value?

Indiana and Dallas now likely out of the Favors bidding.

Atlanta is likely using their space for salary dumps... Even if they signed someone I think they'd go younger Capela, Gordon, Parker. Favs market drying up before the market even opens.

Also if Kanter opts out that will be one more PF/C Favors will be competing against. Favors will be competing against all these guys, as teams will view him as a center in today's NBA.

Alex Len (just renounced)
Nerlens Noel (waiting for any scraps to be thrown his way)
Jahlil "will revolutionize the center position" Okafor (-Coach Cal)
Enes Kanter (mercs could grab him at any time and bring him back to Turkey)
DeMarcus Cousins
Julius Randle
Brook Lopez
Montrezl Harrell (looked very serviceable last year)
Greg Monroe
Ed Davis (PF, but like Favors will be viewed as a center being 6'10" and can't shoot)

Alex Len (just renounced) - Favors is better
Nerlens Noel (waiting for any scraps to be thrown his way) - Favors is better
Jahlil "will revolutionize the center position" Okafor (-Coach Cal) Favors is better
DeMarcus Cousins - staying in NOLA
Julius Randle
Brook Lopez Favors is better
Montrezl Harrell (looked very serviceable last year) Favors is better
Greg Monroe Favors is better
Ed Davis (PF, but like Favors will be viewed as a center being 6'10" and can't shoot)Favors is better
Favors is better than most these guys.

So outside of Julius Randle, Favors could be the best C/PF on the market. By the way, I removed Kanter because I don't think he's walking away from over $18 million.

Salah Mejri is now unrestricted too. So many bigs out there... we can't overpay for past performance, but have to balance giving him something fair that allows him to save face. This sucks for him and I am a little bit sad for him.

Favs is better, but lets say you get one of those guys on a minimum deal... or two of them... its about asset allocation. MLE might be the best and might be something he should take.

The Jazz are really weird sometimes. We hold on and over pay for guys we 'believe' in and have an emotional ties to (Burks). But we are stingy on guys that seem to deserve it (Hayward).

Well Burks was extended after his 3rd year, and it was his best year to date averaging 14 ppg and a 15.8 PER. At 22 years old who would have guessed that was his ceiling as an NBA player, never to improve!

Jerebko is just as good as Bjelica.

straight percentages sure... but Bjelica shot the above the break three at 43% on a 130 attempts last year. Jonas shot the corner three at 50% and above the break at 32% He's almost exclusively a corner 3 shooter.

I'd say they are similar on defense.

Nice stats, thanks. How do you get that info?

Google the players and shot charts... will give you some results... Bjelica is a little uneven year over year.

I don't know I feel like maybe we should just role with the same guys... keep a roster spot open and keep our exceptions until end of FA. Dudes are gonna miss out and there may be some one year guys that are bargains... Tyreke Evans last year is an example.

What was Bjellica on corner threes? Cause the Jazz offense creates a lot of them, and 50% is pretty good.

Wasn’t as good but didn’t get many of them... I’d think he’d be better with consistent looks there... but someone else can park in the corner if he stretches from above the break.

I think he’s more of a reputation shooter too...it’s less about how well he shoots and more about the added space sometimes.
