What's new

Jazz Free Agency Summer of 2018

He will end up in Orlando and hopefully get some of his value back. The injury issues and physical limitations are really tough to commit to long term.
I see, the Orlando twitter follow. Mmmm, makes sense for both. The Magic is going to be so bad. IT needs to do some humbling too and accept that he is not a starting caliber pg on a good team anymore. Injuries suck for a player like him who relied on quickness and unique body control.

Yeah, I think it will be big for him.

What I expect to see from him this year is improved passing as well. He had a lot of bad turnovers trying to make plays. I think he will learn our system better and improve his TO ratio.

His shot is still so ugly even when he was hitting. But when he is confident it seems much better. So I think he can get confident in his shot.

His set shot is goofy but consistent... honestly I never cringe when he shoots a set shot with time. His not shooting off the dribble messes up some of our pick and roll stuff... some of that can be aided with a stretch 4.

Yeah and we're all here saying he'll NEVER DO THAT IN THE WEST.

What's the point of doing a hypothetical if it can never come true?

There are many reasons. 1, its a sports message board in the off season. We are playing a hypothetical game that you are involved in drafting players and guessing who would win. They would never play against each other and that would never happen, so whats the point? Its entertaining.

Second of all, I dont think its impossible. I also dont think its likely but it could happen. Most likely for it to happen would require a decent jump in his game, the Jazz to win a lot of games and be a top 2/3 seed, and some injuries. An unlikely storm.

Also you like to speak in terms of everyone. No one else is saying what you are saying you are on your own. You are saying that not everyone else. You gotta stop trying to talk for others. I speak for me and I am pretty sure my opinions are different from everyone elses on this board. Just like you opinions are different from everyone elses.

Like Julius Randle playing the 3? You pull hypotheticals out of your *** all the time, so the irony is high here.

And you still never answered about saying Tim Duncan was “solid”. Explain yourself.

I love IT's heart and unconquerable spirit. If he stays healthy he could make Orlando really fun to watch. In the Anemia East he might even push his way into an all-star game.

If Rubio plays at an all star level, he could get over $20 million a year.

Rubio most likely will not play at that high of a level, but will probably get paid between $17-20 a year.

See, that wasn’t hard guys!

You're the only one here who thinks Rubio can 'hypothetically' make the All Star team in the West.

I dunno, maybe if there's a flu outbreak that affects Curry, Lillard, Klay, Butler, Westbrook all at the same time, that could happen, 'hypothetically'.

Keep living in your hypothetical world though, it suits you.

I think NY, Philly, Indiana, San Antonio will look at pgs, but will place a premium on shooting and not sure Rubio would be the first target... so I'm not sure he has a ton of suitors... even if he shows one year improvement. There are enough other stopgap options available next year if he did get too pricey. I don't know that we can get the Stretch 4 or dynamic 3 we want and have Rubio and Exum on the books... and if Rubio gets a 25-30 it gets to be rough to keep him. I'd likely let him walk at that point. We will have some options to replace what he does... hopefully Exum, Grayson can help give us some comfort there and we will see where Exum comes in with his contract.

I think if Rubio shoots like he did in the second half he will have a lot of suitors. If he shoots 40+% for the season from three that will make him pretty valuable. A great passer, a great defender, and a knock down 3 point shooter is a pretty good commodity in the NBA that can create for himself and others.

But shooting is still the big question mark for Rubio.

I will keep playing the hypothetical game that all of us, including you play everyday on this sports message board. Its suits all of us pretty well. That is a huge chunk of what we do on here.

And no, I am not the only one who thinks that it is impossible for Rubio to be an all-star. But you also dont think that because you just gave a hypothetical scenario where it could happen. An almost impossible one but not a 0% chance one.

Its not the league's job to explain it to them. I bet it was explained in detail though. The players are just like children.. They arent smart enough to get it and will fight what is actually good for them.

When they wanted all the money right now. I thought it was pretty obvious what was gonna happen in the future. I dont know how they couldnt see it coming.
The really stupid thing is that they would have still gotten all the money right now! It just would have been distributed evenly amongst the players instead of showing up as extra cap space for teams to use that way.

So correct my mistakes here. The Jazz currently have....

Guards
Rubio, Mitchell, Stockton, Burks, Allen

Wings

Oneal, Crowder, Thabo, Ingles,

Bigs

Gobert, Favors, Bradley

That is 12 players, plus team options on Udoh & Jerebko. And RFA's Neto & Exum.

That's up to 16 players.

Something's gotta give.

At least 1 other poster here have said that there's 0% chance of that happening. And even if it's not, it's close to it.

Keep living in 'dreams' though - again, it suits you.

15 of those 16 are NBA players. One isn't. Pretty obvious what would give.

Yep, 1 person means everyone... Also these arent my dreams. Some of these words are really over your head though. You make a lot of assumptions.

You also still havent said what you think Rubio is worth and what you expect him to play like... Probably dont want to go on record though. Better to never make a prediction than to be wrong. Just stick to misreading and making assumptions, not answering anything, and generally not understanding words. It suits you well.

Knowing you want to keep him and have cap space next summer (and that he has a cap hold of $22M next year) what would you offer him this summer as an extension though. 15 per saves us 7M in space... that's what I'm debating.

You can be -

Strong
Jump really high
Have high top line speed
Have lower top line speed but change directions and speeds well (Harden is elite at slowing down and stopping... shows on his step backs and a lot of his drives)
Be extremely physically coordinated
Quick feet (lateral movement)

There are lots of traits with athleticism. there is also raw track meet athleticism and functional athleticism.
Agreed completely. It used to always bug me when people said Stockton was not athletic. Granted he didn't jump really high, but he was athletic as heck.

Yeah... does anyone really think Stockton is coming back? I think since we have Favs we need to release one of Udoh or Jonas... but would understand if they kept both because Bradley likely isn't ready to help if there is an injury.

I'm a wide body guy who goes past "athletic" guards in pickup and rec leagues a lot... so I'm biased towards guys who are seemingly non-athletic.

That is a good example of someone that doesnt have traditional basketball athleticism but had elite athletic abilities that he used to be an elite player. The way he could flick his wrist and throw a rocket pass was very athletic and was a very elite ability based on his elite athleticism.

I hope he keeps improving, but I have a feeling his shooting may revert back to the norm a bit. Like HH alluded to, other teams might go for younger prospects in a point guard and aren't likely to offer him much more than the $20m range. You said he could get $25m.

I hope we can get him for $18m or less. Any more than than and I'd rather stick with Exum and grab a next level player and pay him/her more than $25m.
