What's new

Jazz Free Agency Summer of 2018

A huge fall from grace. Last year we were all talking about an extension at $15M per was a great deal. I bet he’d kill for that now.
Isn't it odd how a single act can destroy a career. I bet Hood wishes he could have a do-over for that moment he refused to go into a game during garbage time.

I'd bring Rodney Hood back on a 1 year minimum salary prove it deal. Win-win for both sides and less pressure for him cause he clearly won't be a starter or be expected to carry the team the way Mitchell has proven he can.

I don't think that is the reason he isn't getting offers. He isn't getting offers because of his poor play and shooting with Cleveland.

Cleveland have him the qualifying offer. I'm sure he will end up playing for that this year and chase an offer next year.

There are also much better restricted free agents not getting offers right now. Jabari, smart, Lavine, Clint Capela, and Nukic are all still available and have no offers.

What is the QO for Hood? Anyone know?

I would take a flier on him if the price was low enough. As a spark off the bench he might be useful and give him a comfortable place to play where he knows the team and sets, and give him a chance to get his head straight. Might pan out.

It's 3.4 million. We would have to offer more than that and multiple years though. Plus if it's barely better Cleveland would probably match. It's an easy no thanks for me.

Maybe another year I would consider it.

Nah to me O'Neal would get the minutes before him based on just better defense alone. Then after that I'd rather give minutes to Grayson to develop. He's my guy.

Yeah, and unless we trade Burks I think he will get minutes and have a role based on his playoff performance. If nothing else I think he gets show cased some. He has been quite the professional.

Not to rely too much on technicalities, because your last sentence may be correct even now after the moratorium ended (8 minutes after you submitted the comment), but it would be strange for any RFA to have received an offer before the end of the moratorium. No offering team wants to give the player's original team extra time to think about matching. And the clock only can start ticking after the moratorium ended.

Page 128 of this thread had excellent commentary. Thanks HH, Ron M, Mdav28, ekembirrt (sp) and others who provided thoughtful input in cordial manner. Thanks.

I’ve been wondering about the “3 superstar rule” in conjunction how jazz are currently constituted. Every player on jazz is debatably better than anyone outside utah thinks they are. Also this goes along with each jazz player contract being a general underpay. Rudy is worth 30M. DM is on rookie rate, ingles and Rubio are under paid. Dante is (hopefully) underpaid. Royce is under paid, etc.
Given that jazz were without seph and Rubio for all or part of Huston series and Houston was about a game and CP3 from finals, it appears to me the jazz are legit contenders. So running it back for a year and being prepared for changes next year IF NEEDED is 100% perfect place to be. (As many of you have said). With the contending level we are at (skill + chemistry + coaching + defensive position). and the fact that we are there with what could be 8 excellent players and only 2 ish stars could be an equation for a chip... can this equation work?

Houston pounded us in regular season but we pounded GS in regular season (with and without stars). We got worked by OKC early in the year, but outperformed them in playoffs. (They didn’t have Roberson). It is not perfectly clear that our current configuration is NOT a valid plan for winning it all. It will take a lot of “ifs”. But that is true of all teams except GS.

K. We get one year to watch the ifs pan out or not, but I’m optimistic (jazz koolaid in hand now).
