Are you kidding? Politicians of both parties are playing endless politics. They are destroying us. There is a huge divide between how the left and right believe this country should be run, and the conversation is moving to the extremes. A short time ago you could have found many Dems (including prominent leaders) who were supporting policies that they now abhor. Immigration policy is just one example.

Let's hope that politicians capable of taking the middle ground show up soon.

No, I wasn't kidding. Just didn't want the Republican games to get lost in the shuffle, lol. So I just put it that way to see what anyone would say. What, you think I'm out to lunch, here? Lol, don't answer that....
 
As long as Ben Sasse is giving civics lessons, maybe he could be the guy to explain to Trump the relationship between the Justice Department and the Chief Executive. How Justice is independent, yada, yada, yada, and all that gobbledegook.

Just being a smart arse. I didn't hear his speech during the hearings, and don't really know anything about the guy.

He's basically a Jeff Flake clone. Talks a big game about how troubling Trump is but hasn't taken any action to reign any of it in. Not a terrible guy from what I can tell, even though his views on abortion and Healthcare are pretty trash.

Edit-He is planning on introducing an ethics reform bill to the Senate, requiring presidential candidates make their tax returns public, making a lifetime ban on members of congress taking lobbyist positions etc. Very similar to Elizabeth Warren's bill, and with similar chances of becoming law.

The best way to get the other side onto yours is by pushing their agenda. Case in point: Trumps tariffs. Turned them all into raging free marketers.
 
Another case in point. Trump talking repeatedly like the Department of Justice is his personal police force. Now the Democrats are defending the Constitution. Oh, wait a sec. We're all expected to do that. Dang civics. Always getting in the way of a good time....

Yep, and another example is that the Dems are fighting for marriage monogamy. Had to throw their old star Billy under the bus to do it, but oh well.
 
Shouldn’t attempted rape even at 17, put at least some question into this SC nomination? Let’s hsve congressional hearings about his accused rape. If he lies before congress he should be disqualified.

Did the alleged victim come forward? Is there any way at all that this could be substantiated? How would you catch him in a lie?

Yes. She’s a USC professor according to the Wash Post. Why Shouldn’t this merit additional time for investigation? Why are we in such a hurry to confirm him? I’m sure it has nothing to do with repubs desperately trying to ramrod his confirmation through before they lose the senate, right?

It goes both ways. R's against EITC modernization, D's flip flop into a bunch of Russophobes after openly mocking Romney (should we dig up red, zombie, straight line posts?). It's pretty entertaining. I'd love to see the R's start pushing cap and trade and CAFE standards under some energy independence guise. Guarantee the D's would start spewing corporate welfare and anti-Wall Street populism. They wouldn't be wrong either.

She's at Palo Alto University, not USC. But whatever. Having a non anonymous accuser now makes a huge difference to me, and should be investigated more. Unfortunately it's likely to just be he said/she said.

Needs to be investigated. It’s really awful Feinstein is bringing this up now. This could, and should have been settled by now. But it absolutely needs to be checked out before he can be confirmed.

Yeah, I'm no fan of Kavanaugh but I don't like how this has gone down. With the accuser coming forward the story needs to be checked out. It just sounds like something that only her, Kavanaugh and his buddy could possibly know anything about, so unless the buddy decides to say something it isn't going to go anywhere.
 
I think under normal circumstances you’d see wide bipartisan support in putting off his confirmation until this could be thoroughly investigated. However, because of the toxic environment that Mitch McConnell and Donald Trump have created, both are eager for a “win.” They don’t have any legislative achievements aside from the tax cut they’re running away from. So they don’t want to concede to those desiring that this issue be investigated because it’ll look like another “win” for democrats and another “loss” for Team Trump right before the midterms. He’ll retaliate by tweeting nonstop whining about “weak republicans” and Fox News and Breitbart will call Mitch a weak cuck who caved to pressure from liberals and the fake news media.

The funny thing is, I’m sure given more time republicans could find another Federalist Society nutjob who’d love to kill Roe v Wade without half the baggage that Kavanaugh has. But admitting such at this point would be admitting that Trump’s choice sucked and that all of the effort put towards defending it was a waste of time.

And to be honest, I’m sure republicans like Murkowski and Collins and democrats in red states would love for this confirmation vote to be postponed. Collins especially, since this very well could be the final straw for Mainers who increasingly see their senator as someone who’s all talk.
 
This Kavanaugh hearing shows exactly why moderates and decent people like @colton need to join with democrats and vote out every republican out there. The Republican Party has become the party of trump. republicans have convinced themselves that conservative justices and tax cuts justify his improprieties. They’re scared to death over being called out by twitter.

But if moderates join democrats and vote all of these republicans out, it’ll send a message to DC that Trumpism is dead.

If however, here isn’t a heavy price to pay, then the party will continue to operate, justifying any obsurdity, like confirming a justice with extremist views, under investigation of rape, without traditional vetting of his documents, and nominated by a historically unpopular president under multiple investigations (and implicated by his own attorney for federal crimes).

Dude, conservatives who don't like Trump are probably perfectly happy with Kavanaugh. I've said it to you before, these SC nominees are the payoff for electing Trump. The idea that he might get to replace RBG if he gets reelected is probably the strongest argument in favor of re-electing him.
