Supreme Court Justice Kennedy to Retire

It’s both sides guys. Both sides are equally to blame.

I’m not a trump supporter but if obama were president I’m sure he’d do an hour long press conference attacking the women and blame the victims for not reporting to law enforcement earlier, just as trump did yesterday.

Both sides are equal. They’re the same guys.

The decision to hire this prosecutor has been pretty bizarre in execution. She's treating it like it's a deposition rather than a public hearing and doesn't seem to know how to develop a line of questioning within the (arbitrary) time limit.

Honestly, if I were the Dems I'd be framing this as "11 men chose to vote for this nominee and refused to even speak to his accuser directly before doing it." I remain of the belief that Kavanaugh will be confirmed anyway.

If confirmed the political backlash should be severe. The senate most definitely should be in play along with more governor’s mansions and state legislatures. How any person with half could still vote republican it beyond me.

Correct me if I’m wrong. But isn’t Cavanagh scheduled to be put in as judge tomorrow, even though this is being hung over America’s head? That’s the sham.

I find it interesting that both victims reported Kavanaugh’s laughter during the assault. Creepy af. But unsurprising. Anyone who takes pleasure in empowering corporations by stripping women and minorities of rights has got a few screws loose. His machiavellian personality is perfect for today’s GOP.

Correct. The vote is scheduled for tomorrow unless trump pulls his nominee, McConnell delays, or Kavanaugh withdraws.

I’d think after today any senator voting for K isn’t hoping to be re-elected.

Anyone know what’s happened to lindsey graham? He’s completely changed in tune in just the last 6-12 months. Has he been... compromised? In some way? I can only think he’s being blackmailed. I can’t imagine anyone could be this dumb.

The republicans have scheduled the confirmation vote for tomorrow. I think they're trying to prevent this from dragging on. This is messy.

Whatever their strategy is it's not working. Dr Ford is coming across as even more sympathetic and believable with her responses to the prosecutor.

The optics of this are terrible for the GOP, they look like spineless cowards who are putting the sexual assault victim on trial.

I dunno, man. With exceptions, of course, the optics are only terrible for the GOP if you're looking through the lens as a) an opponent of the GOP or b) a politically agnostic individual. Loyal Republicans-- i.e. those who voted Trump into office, and incredibly still defend him and his whole vibe to this point-- will be every bit as skeptical and dickish as Senator Hatch, or as Senator Graham was in his post-hearing comments. The same mindset and rationale that lead Trump constituents to say they'd vote Trump in for a second term leads them to watch Dr. Blasey-Ford's hearing, and somehow explain this away as some sort of politically-motivated, clandestine setup. We all know these people-- they're in our families and neighborhoods, and they're evidently the majority.

So basically the message they are sending is they care more about their own agenda then the well being of America. Awesome, idiots!!

The status quo for many politicians. Vote the party line, work for their pet projects and stay elected.

Trump cares about ratings (like all populist leaders) so I wouldn’t be surprised to see him pull this tonight and avoid the senate embarrassing themselves further with a vote tomorrow. When the pressure gets too high he buckles, just as he did with the child cage thing a few months ago.

If Kavanaugh doesn’t successfully muddy the waters and sow doubt, I think he’s cooked.

Republicans can still win. They could just choose another candidate to shred Roe v Wade and empower corporations. It’s not like there’s a shortage of Federalist Society nutjobs.

Amy Coney Barrett is just as conservative (it not more) and likely doesn’t have the checkered past kavanaugh has. She’s also a woman, so that’ll help republicans with disaster control and help wallpaper this debacle up.

Exactly exactly. Totally agree. Both sides are equal guys. Both parties are the same. Obama would’ve totally blasted Ford last night if Kavanaugh had been his nominee. Harry Reid would’ve acted exactly like McConnell by holding up garland’s pick for a year and then jamming Kavanaugh down our throat. Also, democrats and republicans view sexual assault the same, which is why Al Franken is still in the senate.

What to believe? Facts? Alt facts? Ford’s words or Kavanaugh’s words? It’s all the same. Let’s remain cynical and not believe in anything or anyone cuz clinton or something.

Oh yeah I completely agree on that point. Hell, yesterday there was a Trump supporting woman on the news saying men groping girls was 'not a huge deal' in front of her teenage daughters. There was an NBC poll showing 56% of Republicans support Kavenaugh even if the allegations are true, so yeah, this hearing isn't going to faze them at all.

That said, there are GOP Senators who can't rely solely on the base to get reelected, and you can bet their opponents are already putting together ads with footage from this hearing.

So it's entirely possible that Kavanaugh doesn't really know who Ford is, or perhaps doesn't know her by her married name, but she sure seems confident in identifying Kavanaugh and Judge by name. That seems a bit odd, but it's possible. She knows who he is, but he doesn't know who she is.

Based on the stories circulating about the heavy drinking he and Mark did as youths it's entirely possible he simply doesn't remember the encounter.

Wow, Kavanaugh's angry opening statement is really a bad look following Ford's compelling testimony.

i cant wait for the next justice that trump will anoint. odds are it will be to replace ginsburg.

that hearing will escalate even more. it might cause a civil war. real hard working men vs communistic left wing leechers!!

people alive today seeing what the left is capable off! the millions of peole killed by mao, stallin, hitler, mousilini, maduro, chavez!

LOLZ

Blazey-Ford admits she told her story to the Washington Post because she was trying to stop Kavanaugh's nomination to the Supreme Court. So the timing of her accusation was politically motivated.

"Who was it - what's his name?"

Are we expected to believe she didn't answer that to anyone all these years? Not even her husband? That'd be the very first question I'd ask and I wouldn't let it go till I knew. Am I right in understanding this is what happened, she NEVER mentioned his name to her husband or anyone until these last few months? Why in the world? That'd be the chief reason I find this hard to believe.

I'd chose Mike Lee over this guy, but heck I find this Ford story hard to believe for this very reason. My wife related a story once of someone who was very crude to her at a food court, very first thing I wanted to know, was who it - what's his name? If it was attempted rape I woudn't have slept till I new the name and I'd sought justice right then. Can anyone honestly believe she'd withhold the name to even her husband? Out of what concern? I work in IT in healthcare and were not allowed to not make a hotline call when something like this is reported.
