Both sides in your bizarre country are pretty unhinged dude

Embarrassing all round
Yeah, after today's disgrace I'm really not in the mood to engage in some both sides are the same ********. They're just not. Anyone paying a modicum of attention to what happened today can see that.

But people on the right say the same thing about your side ... so wtf is the rest of the world supposed to believe ?

She could still do it after she's appointed though right? I wonder if that has ever been done on a Supreme Court Judge? Through that process the court could subpoena all the witnesses including Mark Judge and they would need to start talking right?

There may be a statute of limitations in a civil context.

At the end of today, if I had a vote, I would vote to confirm Kavanaugh. Here's the rationale:
  • I didn't find Ford's testimony plausible. There were a number of holes, contradictions and things that didn't make sense in her story. No new facts about the alleged incident have emerged, and no one has has corroborated her story, including her supposed best friend who was allegedly at the incident. Aside from time and location being absent, there are questions about how she got to and from the house, why she would not say anything to her friend while at the house, why she would leave on her own leaving her friend with two drunk and rowdy boys who were unsafe, how her friend said nothing or showed no concern at the time of the event. The story is too thin. Other things like her claiming to be too afraid to fly, her not knowing the Committee offered to interview her in Calif. when it was all over the news, the way her friends were trying to help her contact the press to get her story out, etc. are fishy.
  • The claim that Kavanaugh was attempting to rape Ford is subjective. The allegations amount to forcible groping, which may qualify as assault depending on what really happened. Even if this happened, I have a hard time condemning Kavanaugh for something he did as a juvenile and more than 35 years ago. I don't think it represents who he is today.
  • The way Ford's information was gathered and handled by the Democrats and coordinated with the media sure looks like an orchestrated hatchet job seeking to delay or prevent Kavanaugh from replacing Kennedy on the SC. The democrats have been playing political theater since the beginning of the process. The real issue here appears to be the SC becoming more conservative if Kavanaugh is confirmed, and without more evidence to support Ford's allegations, she looks like a pawn in the political game.
  • Kavanaugh is otherwise professionally qualified to serve as a judge.

It may still be worth doing an FBI investigation to pressure test Ford's story and demand that Mark Judge be depositioned, but based on where things stand now, I would probably confirm him. I say that as someone who is not opposed to adding a conservative judge to the SC.

When Kavanaugh was nominated, I was disgusted with Trump for picking him. Kavanaugh was as detestable as Mitt Romney for being a Bushie, in my book..... which means, essentially, another globalist with marginal cred for being really "Constitutional", a player who will go with the flow. Another Roberts sort of SC figure.

But his performance today just blew away the whole Outrage Campaign. And then there was what Lindsey Graham had to say about it.

Sorry, folks. If you wanna get Americans to support you, you've got to have a little more class.

There have been many, many blatantly false things said about Ms. Ford or her attorney this past week, so I would like to see your source before I consider this credible enough to respond to.

I obviously can’t post the naked pic and the source is my buddy Larry Nielsen. I have no idea what source he got that info from.

OK a few of things:

1. I can recall certain painful moments in my life when I could clearly remember what happened, what time of day it was, where in the building I was in, etc, but not all the other details around it. I don't think the human mind is so powerful that you can remember EVERY-SINGLE-THING even when it's a traumatic & memorable event. Not unless you've got photographic memory.

2. What does Dr. Ford have to gain from doing this? She doesn't strike me as someone who has political aspirations. This thing is tearing her life and family apart and at least half of America will be against her for the remainder of her life. Whatever she could gain from this isn't worth all the trouble.

3. If the story you brought up about the 2 men who confessed to assaulting Dr. Ford that night was true - couple with Kavanaugh's innocence, why doesn't Kavanaugh call for the FBI investigation and clear his name once and for all instead of 'I'll do what the Committee asks me to'?

To me the fishiest thing here is Kavanaugh's reluctance for any further investigation.

Did you see his opening statement? He did say he is for any investigation the committee puts forward in his opening statement, including an FBI probe. Do you really think the Dems have not done an intensive investigation? Oviously there is a political driver by the Democrats to delay with an FBI investigation, and Kavanaugh knows that, but as he is supposed to appear impartial, it would damage his nomination to make those claims and the Dems knew this. It was a smart but unfair question. Kavanaugh stated that any investigation the committee determines to be appropriate he would back and he was confident it would vindicate him. I also would like an FBI probe, but there is a clear political reason for delay by the Dems and avoiding delay by the Repubs. Do you really think the Dems would let a probe happen in three days like the Hill matter? This is political theater at it's finest.

Any delay makes the confirmation less likely, especially if Dems push other very shaky allegations with no witnesses. The Dems want a delay for a nomination until after the mid-terms. This is a fact. I am sorry, but the gang rape story seems simply absurd if you read the allegations from the standpoint that there no witnesses have come forward based on Swetnick's account. What is striking to me from all three accounts is that there are 0 corroborating witnesses that saw even one of these actions. I tend to believe Ford and it is plausible that others would not remember (in that case Kavanaugh and Judge are lying most likely) what happened to her, and I think the Dems pushing the other two allegations actually hurts them and tarnishes Ford's claim a bit, especially coupled with the timing of the release of Ford's claim, which makes it have a political flavor. With multiple claims being pushed, all with many people alleged to have seen the events or been present, yet no witnesses have come forward to say they saw any of it. The Swetnick and Ramirez stories seem like BS.

My observation is the Republicans, by using an attorney to ask questions, were very fair and respectful to Ford (as they should be). There were probing questions, but no yelling or accusations and no trickery with unfair questions. Ford also had the benefit of the constant interruptions and break up in questions between rep and dem committee questions (that were all favorable for Ford as expected). It went from probing fact finding questions, many of which were never answered due to the format, to questions from Dems that were all favorable to Ford.

The respect and fairness of the questions posed by the committee to Ford were not afforded to Kavanaugh. Doe anyone that watched the hearimg dispute this? The Republican committee members did a poor job, and agreeing to the 5 minute setup made this even more of a circus.

Well, it's up to you if you want to pass around ugly rumors regarding a rape victim on no substantiation.

The Committee couldn't agree on anything as evident by yesterday's proceeding, so they were never going to agree on getting the FBI involved. And Trump would never ask for the FBI to get involved. Kavanaugh was the only one who could initiate the request. He knew that hence the repeated "I'll do whatever the Committee asks me to". It's a clever deflection as it stops short of saying "NO" but it also is not a "Yes".

Might be related to the fact that they were both minors? Not sure. She would still need some real evidence to support her allegation. She could have gotten a complaint drawn up and filed weeks or months ago though.

Perhaps the inevitable mountains of judgment that would be poured down upon her? Claims that she is only seeking money, etc.

Um, so if that's the best way to do it why don't courts accept written statements? Why does anyone have to testify?

This wasn't a trial, it's a hearing where were supposed to learn about the nominees positions on laws and such.

The state of Arkansas requires a woman to report the name of her rapist when she wants to call a hotline? I hope I got that wrong.
If reported to a therapist or healthcare professional they have to make a hotline call.

This was 100% a attempt to slander by the Democrats, they knew they have ZERO evidence so why even do this stunt? All the witnesses deny. I'm an impartial viewer not democrat or republican, the only string they have to hold onto for this crazyness to be remotely true since all the witnessess denie it happen is a supposed lie detector test, that's all that's left that can possibly collaborate this obvious stunt, then we find out this morning the questions that were asked, none of them included Kavanaugh's name?

This is 100% lunacy, all in an attempt by the dems to slander a guys name, delay the senate and the supreme court. They know they have nothing, and it's all damning to DNC, people with eyes to see are walking away. Anyway, y'all know my opinions, @Catchall is about the only person in this entire thread other than me with a brain it seems but I haven't read all posts and i'm not devoting any more time to this charade. Peace

I think that if I had personal knowledge of a person nominated for the Supreme Court doing something that absolutely disqualified them then I'd be more motivated than ever to come forward even if I had remained silent before. That's not political, it's civic duty, and her civic duty was significantly greater once he was nominated.

What about her civic duty to report a sexual predator to the police? If any of this was true....
