What's new

DuhBron will win NONE of the Championships.

It is the sense of entitlement that makes LBJ so insuffferable, and will also make it very hard for him to get over that hump. He will have to bring in at least one more all-star to get there. When they add Chris Paul (let's say) they will become the dynasty he imagines, but not before. To me this makes any championship they might win that way even more hollow. Jordan was the super-star, Pippen was a solid all-star. That was about it. Beyond that they had solid coaching, great role-players who bought into the philosophy, and a super-star who would not take losing for an answer. Period.

If LeBron wins one with 3 other super/all-stars around him, how could that possibly mean anything or say anything about LeBron as a player? That is like saying the East All-stars beat the Mavs to win the Championship. Isn't that a big "duh"?

I agree with some of this. Ledouche reeks of the entitlement, look at me, I'm special that stems from the AAU circuit. But saying Pippen was just a solid all-star is just wrong. He is the best wing defender of all-time. Ever. Offensively, he could do so much and with a mediocre team, took them to game seven in the second round of the playoffs, without Michael, where they lost to the Knicks who should have beaten Houston in the Finals. Nothing amazing but pretty solid.

The Heat are only going to get better. The Mavs are only going to get worse. See you next year Miami.

Huh?

Why are the Mavs only going to get worse? And why are the Heat only going to get better?

Is Bosh going to all of a sudden put on 50 pounds and will be more willing to bang inside?
Will Wade all of a sudden develop a 3 point shot?
Will Lebron finally develop skills after 8 years of bullying his way into the key?

The Mavs were without Haywood for most of the Finals and Caron Butler for all the post season. Having Butler would have improved Dallas drastically. The Dirk isn't showing any signs of slowing down (why would he? He's not that old). Neither has Terry, Marion, or Chandler. Kidd is old and definitely on the decline. But he isn't asked to do much anyway.

I don't buy this whole thing that Miami is going to get better while Dallas is going to get worse.

Miami is locked into 3 very large contracts. Their legit centers are on their last legs (Big Z, Dampier, and Howard). Chalmers doesn't have a high ceiling and Bibby sucks. Jones and Miller are one dimensional.

Dallas also has Cuban.

I see Miami has as great of a chance of declining as anybody. While Dallas has just as good of a chance of repeating as anyone else.

Agreed about Pippen but I still would not put him in the "super-star" category, but now we start to argue semantics.

Still the bottom line is the Bulls championship teams had 2 stars, while LeBron is going to require 3 or 4 to get there. The biggest difference in my mind is leadership, drive, and sheer grit and determination of THE MAN to make it happen. Jordan had it, LeBron does not.

.....the Mav's would throw a zone on the east all-stars....and beat them, too!

The more time passes, the more people forget how utterly great the great ones were.

Today's youth see "great" players being Gasol, Bynum, AI, Iggy, Rip, Dwade, and Dwill.

These jokes couldn't hold the jocks of those that played in the 80's and 90's.

Today, Dwight Howard rules. 15 years ago, there were 3-4 Dwights.

Just to compare, if Malone were drafted today, he'd be a mix of Amare, Blake Griffin, and Dwight Howard.

If Payton were drafted today, he'd be a mix of Dwill, Drose, and CP3.

If Jordan were drafted today, he'd be a mix of Kobe, Ray Allen, Gerald Wallace, and Bruce Bowen.

Jordan was a robot. He dumped 30+ points in the playoffs like it was nothing. He hit all the game winners that I could remember. And you could always count on him shutting down the player he guarded. He was insane.

This... Is... Awesome!

I guess LeBron James’ statement that people who hate the Heat are going to “have to wake up and have the same life that they had before they woke up today” doesn’t really apply to everyone. Take the Dallas Mavericks for example. Most awoke this morning with incredible hangovers, I’m guessing (and Mark Cuban awoke with the Larry O’Brien Trophy). And at least one was wearing this t-shirt, emblazoned with ‘Hey LeBron! How’s My Dirk Taste?’ Of course that’s a variation of the haunting Shaquille O’Neal rap lyric “How’s my *** taste?” directed at Kobe Bryant.

This supplants Stevenson’s previous t-shirt design, ‘Acting!’

Yep, Stevenson was still wearing the shirt when he got off the plane in Dallas this morning.

I seriously doubt the youth consider Bynum Iggy & Rip to be greats.

Gasol and Williams could end up being all time greats but they aren't there quite yet.

Wade is an all time great and lock for the HOF barring some horrific career ending injury. Played 8 years and been an allstar for 7 of the 8. 25ppg career average. Finals MVP.

Oh please. The great players of today's game would do just fine in the 80s and 90s.

I will agree with the decline of the great centers in the NBA. The late 80s and 90s were kind of the golden age for centers. Ewing, Robinson, Olajuwon, Shaq etc.

Agree about Jordan - he scored 30+ when defenders could handcheck him on the perimeter and mug him when he came down the lane. He definitely got more than his share of the calls (esp in the mid/late 90's) but routine shooting fouls that Isiah's Pistons and Riley's Knicks laid on him would be obvious flagarants in today's wussified NBA.

When the Bulls lost Game 6 of the ECF to the Pacers in '98 on a play where MJ was pushed to the ground by Derrick McKey and a foul wasn't called - unlike a LeBron/Wade/Kobe Jordan didn't complain or flail his arms like a windmill - he just got up and walked off the court. Superstars today don't have to be as tough as they were in the 90's or before.

Lebron can win a championship...but he's going to have to be surrounded by smarter ball players to do it! Now that everybody in town knows how to frustrate and compete with the Heat (USE A ZONE DEFENSE) it's going to be up to the Heat front office to get the necessary smart players to compliment Wade and Lebron, both of whom are prone to turnovers, dribbling off their foot, wild shot selection and just in general, dumb basketball decisions!

This! Loved how Wade threw up that desperation 3 and fell to the ground, had enough time to watch it miss and then hurry and put his hand over his eye and looked at the ref waiting for a foul to be called.

Hell, when I re-watched the Jazz-Rockets Game 6 WCF game from '97 last year, all I could think was that if either of those teams was in the NBA today, they would absolutely dominate. If you combined those two teams, they'd match up pretty well with today's All-Stars, IMHO. Then I began thinking about the other top players from that era - Jordan, Pippen, Ewing, Mourning, Shaq in his prime, Reggie Miller, Barkley, Hardaway, Payton, etc, and realised just how far standards have fallen in today's league, so many "stars" not worthy of the label.
