What's new

Billboard vandalized.

Why is Tom Selleck featured on such a poster? And at what time did George Carlin have such a long beard?? John Lithgow in a puffy pirate shirt??? I guess I just don't understand the message that this poster is trying to put accross.

I'd just like to point out that most of the billboard/sign defacing is done by the conservative/religious crowd. Oh, and assassinations as well...

Flame away!

I thought it was a ligit question. Beantown isn't the only person I've ever heard this from, by far. What gets my panties in a bunch is how these guys can believe this as much as they do, despite not only the complete lack of anything tying this nation to Christianity in our constitution, but the downright rejection of a connection between church and state (I know that phrase doesn't appear in our constitution) by many of them.

I understand that. I just don't understand is why it bothers you so much.

Because they're on the offensive and I see a religious nation as a real threat to my life, as an Atheist.

If people just passively accepted that that the intent was to make the USA a Christian nation, and that believ never spilled over into politics and lawmaking, it would still be as worth debating as, for example, incorrect understandings of other historical records, scientific principles, etc.

However, the incorrect understanding is also used a justification for passing laws that many people, some of whom are atheists, feel should not be passed in a secular nation.

Would you be upset if the Obama administration decided to start putting, "In Lucifer We Trust" on your money, your pledge of allegiance, etc? I have a feeling that you wouldn't be a fan, right?

Are you really that dim?

So Atheists equate the concept of God with the Christian Concept of Satan?

Not what I was saying at all. I was just saying it's interesting that BeanClown, as a 'God Fearing American' and devout dumbass, takes issue with people who don't like the use of "God" in governmental stuff, coins, PoA, etc. I wanted to know if he'd change his tune if our coins said something that he didn't believe. I have a feeling he wouldn't like that too much, but you'll notice he didn't bother responding.

Beanclown basically came in, dropped off his usual mind turd, and promptly vacated the conversation.

Personally, I want no mention of God in anything to do with the running of our country and am resolutely in favor of removing any religious imagery from anything that comes from the government.

Its a sad commentary on the state of our country when people are forced to take out ad space to remind everyone fight back against the christian makeovers that the founding fathers and their ideas have suffered.

Here, here.

Oh, okay. I get it. Getting all bothered is going to change Beantown's mind, and start the precious domino effect that will eventually squash christian thinking.

Egg on my face.

It would be "Thank Ego Orb."

Okay.

Look, I don't have any problem with venting. I just don't understand why someone gets so uptight about another person's opinion. Are we not all entitled to an opinion?

I wasn't scolding, chastening, or fault finding. And I don't see anything wrong with Gameface's argument - hence the somewhat snarky comment to OneBrow - I actually agree about the construction of our country and its gov't. I just think it's funny that he can get so excited over a comment by some random bloke, that's all.

In all seriousness, one bloke often carries the opinion of many. It's not just one who believes that. That's why one would get all excited.

This is what disturbed me the most in that article.

According to a 2007 national survey by the First Amendment Center, 65 percent of Americans believe that the Founders intended the United States to be a Christian nation, and 55 percent believe the Constitution established a Christian nation.
