Jazz considering Jonas Valanciunas at #3

Biyombo and Jeremy Tyler disagree with you.

I guess BB could pass, but is only 6'9 in shoes and doesn't have an elite standing reach of 9'6" like Jonas is said to have. Jonas measured 7' in shoes in Treviso per Chad Ford. He can nearly dunk on his tip toes.
Yeah Tyler could probably play center, but I discounted him because he sucks :)

I actually like Jonas but I don't know that he'll be better than Kanter. At least he's longer and always keeps working.

Biyombo has legit center reach. He plays defense and rebounds. He plays like a prototypical center should play.

Jonas is not the sexy pick, but he could be center to play alongside Favors, he has not yet reached his potential but is said to be a gym rat. David Locke interviewed the "Scout" who said that Jonas will be a better scorer in the leguae than Knater and probably a better scorer than Favors. He led his league in rebounds. Scored a bunch off of offensive rebounds and has a 7'-6" wingspan. Cleveland is said to like him because he could be the next Ilgaskuas, which isn't a very high upside for the #3 pick, my only fear is that the Jazz draft him and his ceiling is the next Kosta Koufous.

If Valanciunas can become the next Zydrunas Ilgauskas without the foot problems, that's very good value for the 3rd/4th pick in this draft. Unfortunately, Valanciunas isn't as big or as skills as Z was when he came into the league, and you're really gambling on his development - IMO even moreso than on someone like Kanter.

Most scouts love JV over Kanter for his motor and work ethic. He has been posting incredible numbers at age 18 in euroleague play, the closest league competition wise to the NBA. My concern is will he ever get to 250-260 pounds, the language barrier, and buyout.

Well, he's listed at 240 now so I bet he can put some weight on. And Motiejunas looked a bit thicker in his most recent workout at eurocamp so maybe JV can get on the same regimen.

Yawn...Ilgaskuas is/was nothing more than Greg Ostertag with an outside shot...big deal.

Biyombo's standing reach is either 9'3" or 9'4" - the same as dwight Howard, but a few inches less than Valanciunas. BUT Biyombo's athleticism is superior to Valanciunas so it probably evens out. although I'm guessing Bismack is significantly better defensively - and his defense will probably permeate to the rest of the team. He's fun.

The area I like Valanciunas better in is his insane FT%. Love it. Bismack's at what, 50%? But should get better I think. He's not lazy.

I like both guys and hope the Jazz get one of them or maybe Kanter. Don't want a PG with the 3rd pick.

Yeah, who is this scout?
