With the suspensions and banning lately, I just wish we could all take a deep breath try to be civil to one another. Anyone with me?

shouldn't this be in the random question thread?

and truthfully, I really, really, really wanted to pick the cheese option, but I realized the sincerity of your post, and decided I should take your poll seriously so I voted honestly

but here's some irony - - speaking of being "civil" to one another, why was it called the Civil War?
and why did a band called War do a song called "Why Can't We Be Friends?"

and thanks Game, for reminding us why we're here :-)

<3 to everyone

I took the cheese option, but that was a sincere vote. I think I have reported a grand total of one poster, maybe 2, and that was for a specific incident with multiple examples and didn't go beyond that, so it is so infrequent it fits the cheese option.

Because I almost never run out of cheese.

I think the people who are reporting posts should be banned. Seriously. Who are these people?

"Someone called me a troll! Better tattle to a moderator."

Get rid of these people and let the adults stay.

I really like the "always" option. It seems to imply that you report every post you read.

I wondered if there actually were people out there like that, reporting every semi-questionable post they find.

Edited: When I was a moderator, I would report posts. I never have as a member.

Seriously, in my opinion, there's a lot of double standards and the board lost of its versatility with the banishment of the last two posters. I mean, I can get banning someone for somethings and I get that this is someone's board with their rules, I just feel permanently banning someone is a little harsh. People should just learn to use the ignore option if they are so annoyed by a poster.

Franklin gave a lot to the board and I enjoyed reading his posts even if I didn't agree with someone of them or thought some where tasteless.

Oh, and I think there's one mod that causes more problems than he eliminates. :D hehepeepeecaca, k luv u bye.

It may be easier to get a long when the poster's who continually attack people or troll are gone. I liked some of Franklin's posts and did not mind a lot of what he did. However poster's like Sloanfeld that bring nothing to the board and harrass people through Rep and Email should be gone.

I rarely report posts. Maybe twice since the board update. If a post is disgusting or blatant attacking I feel it should be reported. Why can't the posters just follow the rules? Instead of blaming the people reporting the posts, blame the people who make the posts that are against the rules.

Can't they just create another username?

No. That is, once you are banned you are banned in every instance. So if we detect a banned user back on the site, it's an instant re-ban. We have a couple of methods in place we can use to tell whether a new user is a recycled banned user. Of course, a person who is talented enough can likely outsmart our "security systems", but the sentiment is the same--once banned, forever banned. (Unless the site has a massive crash and Jason implements a general amnesty...)

Though I haven't always seen eye to eye with the mods i always felt like you really have to try to get banned in order to get banned from jazzfanz.

Yep.

I'm not sure that anyone disliked franklin. He was a likable guy, funny, and very intelligent. He did bring a lot to the board. That being said, permanent banishment is a process. If a poster can't (or won't) figure out where the boundaries are by the time they've accumulated 5 infractions within 180 days, they have nobody to blame but themselves.

I'm speculating, but in franklin's case he seemed pretty much bent on seeing what it took to get the perma-ban. I'm not sure why - he appeared to get either bored or annoyed. I wish he were here too. But anyway, you were saying about a double standard...

I can't really argue with that. I guess the banned posters got what they deserved.

I don't see how someone can figure out the boundaries if we aren't informed when someone has gotten an infraction and for what reason.

This mod "curtain" isn't conducive to informed users.

You have a negative opinion about the mods and the mod process? Boy am I surprised!

If you post by the rules, which are available to all, you will have no problems. The moderation staff is neither obligated nor inclined to discuss or explain every decision that is made. Most posters seem to get along just fine in this system. If a real issue existed, I would suppose that it would negatively effect more than a small handful of participants.

Its the topic of the day after the banning Crisis.

I am sort of fascinated by the greater philosophical questions this brings to mind relating to justice, open government, protest, etc.
