Roster Addition Wish List

When it comes down it, I actually think the Wizards will hold on to Porter and try him with their new nucleus and trade Beal or Wall. Beal & Wall seem to have a lot more trade value given Otto Porter's contract. I don't think it's worth it for the Wizards to trade him. He's worth more to them just keeping him because teams aren't going to give up much to get Porter with that contract.

Wall has a really unique trade kicker issue. Some NBA smart dudes have commented and asked league office how it would be interpreted. If he's traded this year it could cost an additional $15M this year and a little bit over the rest of his albatross contract. If they wait until next year it isn't as costly.

It is complex but it is a enough of a thing I don't think a Wall trade would happen until next year.

I don't think we can wait for January. I think Washington will look to trade somebody but only make one deal involving Beal, Wall or OP. That deal is gonna happen soon and we need to be it.

They are good enough to do okay enough to make the playoffs with 3 of Beal, Wall, OP and Oubre. Come 2020 when Mahinmi is gone, they can add another player.

They got to wait. Everyone waits. Rarely does a major deal get done before those dates.

Bledsoe and Griffin were traded early last year. It is not unheard of... not everyone waits. If they have an offer and don't want to risk injury with OP they will pull the trigger. Not like we would be offering a huge return that can't be beat.

Shams also tweeted out they had a pretty contentious practice... there may be some urgency here.

Washington won't wait until January. They have too much talent to risk missing the playoffs over chemistry.

It's weird. This team could replace Porter with Burks and somehow be better due to chemistry. Oubre and Morris would start and Burks plays 6th man. This Wiz teams just needs a jolt.

Washington will make a move pre- January 15th... NO could sweep in after 12/15 because Randle is eligible at some point.

If we wait here we will not get the deal... which may or may not be fine.

I don't think they are super worried about the playoffs.

It sounds like this might be a Beal Wall issue though. So it may be Beal on the move.

After thinking on it more, we should just offer a boatload for Beal. Screw it, go for it.

Beal and Mahinmi
for
Rubio, Burks, Thabo, Bradley and two unprotected 1st round picks

Blake was traded on January 29th

Bledsoe demanded a trade

whoops... my bad on Blake... just remember it being a ways before the trade deadline. Dysfunction/toxic environments will create urgency... Jimmy, Bledsoe, Niko (had to wait). Blake may have been moved earlier had he been healthy.

I just can't imagine they will roll the next two months... this stuff is coming out for a reason... either the player/players want out so they are feeding info or other front offices want to create some urgency and are leaking names they've heard in talks.

We will see...

I know it's common sense, but David Locke has always said to look at who the Jazz had previously tried to acquire to predict what their future moves would be. We know for a fact that they were going to get on a plane on July 4 to offer Porter a (presumably) max contract. If anyone's watched the Wizards, I think you can see what a dumpster fire it is. There's like 8 guys in contract years playing selfishly to get paid and I think Porter is a casualty of that, and that he hasn't really regressed that badly. I think he'd be a really nice buy-low candidate, especially if you think the Jazz have zero shot at a max guy in free agency.

But Beal is a guy that I've always really liked and I think he could be like a Ray Allen in Milwaukee type player for us. I think Mitchell is a year, maybe 2, away from playing PG though, so it'd have to be PG by committee. I think they could pull it off though since Ingles and Beal can handle and distribute. I just don't think we have the assets to pull off a trade for Beal. Washington's owner is a cheapskate, so I think the only way it happens is if Utah is the only team willing to take on Mahinmi and they send the maximum amount of cash for a transaction (what is it, 5 million?). Washington is too cheap to fire Scott Brooks.

I just don't know what the hell Washington will do if they trade Porter and/or Beal and keep Wall. Their roster would be trash and I'm sure Wall would be pissed starting a rebuild now.

Phoenix? Their point guards are trash and Ricky credited Igor for helping him a lot last year.

Phoenix, Orlando, Cleveland, Chicago (which would be hilarious to reunite Lavine, Rubio, Dunn)

Issue is matching salary in Phoenix. The other teams could match pretty easily expiring for expiring. Orlando is playing well right now so probably not willing to shake things up.

The fact that we can never find great Ricky fits should tell us a bit about his limitations. I'm glad he's playing better... but I don't think I'll ever trust it.

Suns get Burks, Rubio and multiple 2nds from Utah

Jazz get Beal, Mahinmi, 2nd rounder from Phoenix

Wiz get Anderson, Thabo, Bradley, Phoenix throw in, Milwaukee uber protected 1st, and two unprotected 1sts from Utah

http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=y9578za2

Suns get two players who help them now and might stay for long term. Bucks pick is really weak. Anderson is terrible.

We pay out the *** in salaries and 2 1sts, but Beal is worth the gamble.

Wiz clear the books (everybody but Bradley expires) and get 3 firsts. Oh and Wiz avoid luxury this year.

So here is another thing to consider. If we did an OP trade and then waived our team option guys except Royce and Niang we'd have about $14M in space. We could trade Dante and Jae without taking back salary to get to about 31M in space.

Like even if we did a deal that was expirings for Otto we could get in the room with some free agents. If Otto played better for us he'd also be movable if we like Harris/Middleton better.

We'd also have just enough space without moving those guys to get in the room with guys that are clearly worth more than the mid-level, but won't find a ton of great offers. Does a 4/60 land Dinwiddie, Brogdon, Rozier (for @LoPo only... I am not a big fan). Might be enough on a one-year deal to get someone that thinks they are worth more, like Tyreke Evans did this year.

Getting Otto doesn't necessarily mean we're not in the conversation on free agents.

If Porter were to fit well, he could be all that we need. He has a ton of talent and he is about to hit his prime. If he were to be really good, not even great, we could be a contender.

With Favors, Crowder, Exum, O'Neale, Neto, Niang as depth. Man, that is loaded.
