Jazz considering Jonas Valanciunas at #3

He does his own research - conducts the most interviews between players and agents by far. Travels overseas to research players like actual scouts. Is privy to all type of exclusive information (like Kanter's complete high school games). His track record in the last 3 years has been impeccable. He nailed the top 6 perfectly every year except for Johnny Flynn in 2008. And that was Kahn at work :)

BTW, Ford's latest Mock also now has Kanter at 6 as well. Givony sets the standard, the others simply parrot his information and try to dress it up like they actually formed this opinion on their own.

How often does he update his mock drafts?

'cos he still has Kemba to Toronto @ #5 which to me is a pretty big call... (i.e., over Kanter)

I have no issue with JV. I just wonder about KOC's mindset. The best move is to leave JV overseas next year even if the lockout isn't resolved. That would fit with trying to work Memo back (for a hopeful deal). And it seems premature to start his salary clock. Picking him 3 (or high in a deal) wouldn't be the sexy move since gratification is likely delayed, but it might be the best longterm move.

It's a very feasible plan to draft him and leave him overseas 1 year. You can count the number of 19 year olds bigs that contributed in the NBA on one hand. Not having to worry about his minutes would also give the Jazz one more year to better evaluate Jefferson and see if they want to keep him long term over Millsap. That is a pretty big decision. Both are free agents in 2 years and chances are the Jazz won't be able to afford both with a hard cap CBA.

Sep-kanter is a much better fit to favors than valanciunas

BN- Maybe, but JV and Favors are definitely better fits for Jefferson. My main problem with Kanter is that he is redundant with Al, I don't see that with JV/Favors.

if you are confident enough to the build utahs future on Big al then dont draft Kanter, but i am not

Really? I would have never guessed that would be your opinion.

if u were abandoned in a small island like a box, what 3 things would u prefer to have with u ?

let me guess,
Derrick williams, Brandon knight, Jonas valanciunas?

Two bits of news came out yesterday that makes Jonas to Jazz seem more of a possibilty.

1--According to Chad Ford Jonas measured in at 7'-0" 245 lbs with 9'-2" standing reach and a 7'-4" wingspan.

2--The CBA negotiations are not going well, all signs point towards a lock-out. Jonas could stay in Europe and develope with his current club for several more months. Kanter will not have played for how long?

I do think Jefferson will stay long term.

At the end of the day it is all about what you want your bigs to do. For me, one of them has got to be somebody that defends the rim and can keep penetrating players from getting confident in the key. Favors looks like he is going to be that guy but he has yet to prove it. JV could be that type of player too. Maybe they both can, but even if they become redundant an inside defensive presence is still a pretty valuable piece.

At the 5 spot I will always prefer defense over offense.

Thats why favors will be 5 and kanter 4.
The thing is, jeffrson has a huge contract right now, and after 2 yrs he wont accept less than that. And i really dont think he is worth 14 million a year. His mid range shot is inconsistent, in defensive end he doesnt know where to stand, no basketball iq. So many weaknesses overshadow his talents, post skills.

If he was that good, then minnesota wouldnt prefer to build the team around Love instead

Minny is run by a retard. Khan could have maintained more dignity impaling himself on a road cone than giving us Jefferson for Koufos.

Al Jefferson is much better than you give him credit for. He's not a help defender so somebody has to be on the court with him to do that. But he can and does bully bigs out of their spots, and makes them work pretty hard to get their points.

I agree that Kanter would fit well with Favors for all the same reasons Al does. But Favors fits with anybody so it's not much of a point.

If you think Kanter is a 4 that's not a very good endorsement considering we have about a million of them.

Kanter is 4, he can play 5 but he is originally 4. Its like duncan played 5 but he is indeed 4.
We have plenty of them u mean, jefferson only, millsap would be a good back up for me and i would never trade such a useful player. And favors, imo has skills more suitable for 5 rather than 4.
So only one left is jefferson.
If i was koc i would trade jefferson and pick kanter. If u think he is good and we better draft another position, its ur opinion, i cant argue with that
But for me, in this draft, its more important to pick the best available than best fit to our team, becuz except kanter , irving (i dont even include derrick) there isnt a player with very high potential

If you see Kanter as BPA of course you take him. My whole line of reasoning is based on the two players being ranked closely, which they are. I'm not advocating reaching for a guy just because he fits the square hole.

Agreed that if you don't like Al then Kanter fits a lot better. I guess we don't have similar visions of the future aside from Favors and Millsap being awesome.

its not that i dont like big Al, but i dont see him as a part of future jazz team (if we r willing to be contenders)

i would rather rely on, hayward, favors, kanter based team and i would try to move up to get knight as well(using 12th pick, gsw pick and harris) but it doesnt seem possible for the moment

Bad trade. That package alone could get you the number 1 pick. Knight's ceiling is Harris in his prime. The GS pick has the potential to turn out and get a solid player and the 12th pick could be a solid player like Biyombo, Singleton,Thompson,Donatas,Burks,Kemba,Jimmer,Hamilton. I like Knight but he is not that valuable.

Actually Ford reported 9'3" standing reach, still shorter than most people, including me, thought. He has roughly the same length measurements as Derrick Favors, so wouldn't be any more of a true center than him. Advantage = Kanter.

There is more to being a true center than just how high you can reach.
