this...team always seems to be playing from behind or only with a 2-5 point lead. not to mention all the missed 3's basically start mini fast breaks for the opponents. puts way too much pressure on the D to step up.

Good barometer for what? Not allowing 3's is smart defense. It's 19 games into the season, it's not a big enough sample for 3pt shooting. I'd rather be the team giving up fewer than getting lucky that the other team is missing.

A low 3pt frequency rate alone, 19 games into the season doesn't mean the jazz are good at defending the three.

Perhaps teams are just taking to Rudy as our pnr defense is too suspect.

A low 3pt frequency means your defensive fundamentals are there. The Jazz just have to do a better job getting back into the play after running the shooters off the line. They are giving up a really high percentage from mid-range this year. That will probably drop as well. Again, I'd rather be the team getting killed from mid-range than the team that is allowing a ton of 3's and getting lucky they arent falling.

We're also 6th in opponents points. But our scoring is so bad that teams can beat us without taking the lower % 3pt shot. So attempts against are lower as a result. Not necessarily because of sound defense.

I get what you're saying, but I don't think that's the reason. The Jazz just do a good job of playing a smart defensive scheme. I just don't think the consistent effort and focus are there currently (though it was good for the Lakers game).

There is not a “single” problem. This team is death by a thousand papercuts. Rudy has contributed his part, every member of the team has. Win as a team, lose as a team. We can call him out just like anyone else. His screens have been sloppy, his focus appears off and he is caught up in the game within the game. The chip on the shoulder appears gone and he seems more focused on the non-calls instead of destroying people for the non-calls / disrespect.

That being said he free throw form is looking better and you can see he put work into his strength over the summer. He obviously cares.
