WOJ: Korver to Jazz for Burks and 2 second rounders

I'm starting to wonder if they were playing Burks so they could try and get his trade value up.

I think you are wrong.
This is his 8th year in the league and this season he was averaging less minutes per game than any other season in his career...... While arguably playing better than any other season in his career.

So if that was the plan, they did a horrible job at it.

So instead of just letting Burks walk like they usually let FA do, they decided to get something back for him instead. Makes perfect sense to me actually. You are thinking about it all wrong.

I doubt that Burks was in the Jazz's plans after this year once his contract expired. I'm sad to see him go on a personal note. I like the guy, he's been nothing but classy despite the substantial challenges/disappointments he's faced the last few weeks. On the other hand, it wasn't going to happen for him v, so I hope he gets his chance knocks it out of the park in Cleveland, and I'll be cheering loudly for him when he returns to Vivant. All the best Houdini!!

So, given Burks was not integral to the Jazz's success one way or the other, bringing in a 3-point specialist who has real gravity is, I think, an upgrade. We desperately need more shooting, and apparently the FO agrees. I hope this turns out to be a win-win. I don't see this as a game changer, but it's a positive step, I think.

Jeff Hornacek, Paul Millsap, Mehmet Okur, Bryon Russell, Carlos Boozer, Shandon Anderson, Howard Eisley, Gordan Giricek, Raja Bell, Donyell Marshall, Mark Eaton, David Benoit, Tyrone Corbin, Mo Williams... all 2nd-rounders or below who were at least decent for us at some point; and that's just the ones that have played for the Jazz. There are tons of examples of guys who never played for us. You're not going to get an all-star out of the 2nd round, but you can definitely get solid rotation players.
Not to quibble but Donyell Marshall was a number 4 overall pick.

You said they were playing Burks to get his value up but they were playing him less than ever before while he was playing his best.
If they wanted his value up then it's seems like they would play him more than they had in the past especially since he was playing better than he had in the past.

I don't think they were playing him to get his value up, I think they were playing him because they didn't have any better options.

Our Gm realizes in December that, except for Ingles, there are no roster shooters .. but what did he think in the off season? Korver, who I like, is 37, goes to take the place of our 23-year-old rookie ... when we say programming ...

Maybe he thought Niang would not lose all shooting ability when he is in a game. Maybe he thought Ricky would (uncharacteristically) maintain some of that shooting momentum he had in the 2nd half of the season. Maybe he thought Exum or O'Neale would improve their shooting, even if just a tiny bit, instead of seemingly regressing. Maybe he thought our defense would get our offense going like it did last year rather than have the new rules destroy our defense and make our offense panic just trying to keep up with the opponents.

I could be way off. Just trying to come up with explanations for what has gone wrong.

Great trade for both sides.

* Cavs get something for Korver
* AB gets an oppurtunity on Cavs
* Utah get desperately needed shooting

* AB and Sexton could be a great pairing, wishing AB the best, will be a beta test for how Quins dogs look outside the kennel.

* Ingles and Korver... yes please. Im hoping Korver gets 12-15 3pa/gm.

Burks just didn't fit in with what Quin wanted to do. He holds the ball, makes bad passes, etc. And his D is not wonderful. He has a lot of talent but low BBIQ. So while his stats were marginally better than prior years, I didn't see him as a plus this year.

With the poor shooting, Korver should help the offense a bit. He was an underrated defender 8 years ago (his length helped him a bit), but he has slowed down a lot and will be more of a liability on the defensive end. It will be interesting to see how he fits in. I think the sets Quin runs will be very helpful for Korver.

Would have been great to see Donovan with the ball, Ingles and Korver in each corner, Gobert setting a pick, and Mirotic somewhere.

They also gave up 2 second round picks for the honor of having 37 year old Korver for a few months. Not just AB.

Jerebko or Bjelinka .

Actually, Jonas in a corner, Korver in the other, Gobert setting the pick, Ingles with the ball, and Mitchell spaced at the top. That is some terrific spacing.

Maybe, maybe, maybe ... but can you say that he was wrong? if we are fourteen west of someone will be the fault? if we had to take a 37 to solve problems maybe something wrong is there ..
Bjelica was available... Lindsey is too passive...

More than a few months. Almost two seasons (assuming he keeps playing and the Jazz keep him as next season is partially guaranteed). And we'll have his contract as an expiring trade piece next season or they can drop him giving the team a lot of flexibility over the next two years as they decide which direction to move in.
